I am proud to announce that I have accepted the opportunity to become the Program Director of the legendary and heritage station in my hometown of Miami.....WHQT - Hot 105. A leader in the market and the industry. It's where I started my career as a young intern at the young age of 19 years old. It's obvious, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and a lifelong dream has been accomplished. I am excited to be working closely with industry leaders such as Miami VP/GM, Jerry Rushin (a Miami market living legend), OM, Tony Fields, and my mentors Atltanta VP/GM, Tony Kidd and Group VP/Market Manager Rich Reis. I would like to thank them for the opportunity to lead the Hot 105 dynasty and continue it's legacy of setting the standard for "the best". I am looking forward in working alongside and leading the amazing and talented group of individuals that make up the strong team at Hot 105. Some of my early examples of leadership and mentoring in my career have lead Hot 105 as Program Directors such as Bill Tanner, Keith Isley, Hector Hannibal, and Tony Kidd and it is a tremendous honor to be added to that list. I know the history, the community, and the expectations that come with this responsibiltiy and I am up to the challenge. My career has come full circle. Let's make something special happen! Afer all...it is the Magic City.

There won't be any major changes, and that's fine because they seem to be doing everything just right. They are the runaway ratings leader en Ingles, and they are still moving even further away from the rest of the pack. They are the current dynasty of South Florida radio. I'm convinced that if it weren't for the strong competition from 99-JAMZ and (to a lesser extent) 103.5-WMIB we would be looking at double-digit overall ratings for HOT-105 in the 11 to 13 range. As it is they are still very strong with a 7 in the last book.

Thanks for the welcome!

Bummer, I was hoping for something down the line like " Hot 105 Miami's Hottest Dance Music " or "Hot 105 South Floridas Pure Dance Channel"..... ill keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best :)

Miami has about 4-5 hip hop stations it wouldnt hurt to do without one :) Well see what happens!

I still think WMIB oughtta flip. How about "The Beat of Miami: 103-5 Spin FM"? Maybe even pick up WKTU's ReelWorld jingle package... the name fits it perfectly!

i SERIOUSLY doubt hot 105 will change its format.. tom joyner will stay in the mornings, freddy cruz will continue the nights.. i CAN see a little more old school party flavor bleeding into the regular weekday playlist...nothing like mixing in some good ol Zapp or Ohio Players in the middle of a set. brings ya back to the days of starforce 99 :)

and comparing phil micheals to bill tanner is like comparing RC to Coca Cola...Phil isnt Bill..he doesnt have the 'power' bill has(had) so no i dont expect Phil to make any kind of impact on Hot 105...Hot 105 is too big of a success for phil (or cox) to ruin..

if hot 105 starts to fall apart..mix that with his pretty weak reign at party 93.1 (which he was handcuffed most of the time) and you can start calling phil micheals 'the grim reaper'

has it been 3 years already? i dunno..103.5 has been changing its format every 3 or so years. i mean since 1993 its been 103 She to 103.5fm to planet 103.5 to mega 103.5 to 103.5 the beat. 5 name changes in 13 years? sounds like 103.5 lost its identity. personally..CC should do something fabulous. take Big 105.9 and send it to 103.5..and rename it 103.5 WSHE.. THEN 105.9 becomes WAXY again..and play Hot AC.

of course, i'm waiting eternally for a revival of I-95.

OUCH ! I can't say anything negative about Phil Michaels. As an ordinary listener of his wonderful creation known as 'PARTY-93.1' (during its first year in 2002) he always treated me with respect. He could have ignored me, but anytime I wrote him with ideas he always responded back. He even took a few of my suggestions and ran with them. Some of them worked out, and some of them did not. In the end the station didn't work because it had too many flaws. Even I abandoned ship a year before it sunk, but I wouldn't blame Phil Michaels for its total demise.

We must remember that even mastermind Bill Tanner had a flop in his resume known as 97.1-WASH in Washington D.C. from 1983 to 1985. I was living there at the time. I was recently wrote about it in here.

I also think that it's way too early to surmise an impending failure on Phil's part. After all he is the Program Director of the # 1 English-speaking station in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale market, and the station is still increasing its audience share even after Phil has taken charge of it.

Now this is a post that I can put my arms around and embrace !

I like the '103.5-WSHE' idea. Bring back the heritage call letters and play the rock music that they originally played back in the 1970s when they were a dynasty. 'WSHE' is currently the call letters of a local Class-D AM gospel station in east Alabama and west Georgia. It's not currently in-use on the FM dial.

'105.9-WAXY' would then be a no-brainer, and I absolutely adore the 'HOT-A.C.' concept for it which is a popular format that is sorely missing here in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale market. You may remember that little experiment back during the latter half of 1991 known as 'MIX-105.9'. It was 'HOT-A.C.' at the time, and the key word was 'HOT'. They were on at a time when Y-100 was struggling with its own identity. Y-100 considered themselves 'TOP 40', but they sounded more like a 'HOT-A.C.' station of their own. When the two stations were on at the same time MIX-105.9 played 'rougher' music than Y-100 did. One fine example of this was Michael Jackson's "Black Or White". Y-100 played it sans the Bill Bottrell rap portion. MIX-105.9 played it - rap and all ! MIX-105.9 was more of a TOP 40 station at the time than Y-100 was !

As far as the return of 'I-95' is concerned that would be a spectacular idea, but I think that the WINZ-FM that you are thinking about is not the same WINZ-FM that I have recently proposed in here. That would be to move the AM operations of WINZ over to the FM dial. FM news and talk radio is sweeping the nation, and eventually it may arrive here in South Florida.

With the way the AM dial gets battered, I'm surprised it hasn't happened already!

By the way, Major, I love the "Awesome 80's in August" theme!

El Ma-yor-WSHE-FM is (according to google), is at 100.3 on the dial. An oldies station...BUT...if you click on the link, it says "RUMBA 100.3", so at best guess, they're going Espanol. Scrap the calls? Mebby.

Ju yus has to waits ang sease mang! ;D

100.3 was WSHE but Clear Channel switched them to WRUM when they dumped their struggling English-speaking format and went with musica de Espanol to capitalize on the rapidly-growing (now nearly one-fourth) Hispanic market de Orlando.

WSHE has been free again free again for months !
