Former WCBS 880 Anchor Gil Gross gets a talk show spot on KKSF910 San Fran.

http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=211996.0

Congratulations to Former WCBS880 anchor, ABC Radio News anchor and KGO-AM Talk host Gil Gross he is now doing Local afternoon drive on Clear Channel owned KKSF910 AM San Francisco from 4pm-7pm San Francisco Time. How long did Gil Gross Worked as WCBS 880 and how was he like in New York before he went national for ABC Radio News from the San Francisco bureau and Talk radio host on KGO-AM 810.

had the pleasure of guesting on his show a couple decades ago when he was on WOR in New York, discussing the difference between upstate and downstate views on issues of statewide importance. Gil Gross was, and is, literate, informed, interesting, and all the things people say they want in a talk host but too seldom get. IIRC he did well on 'OR back in the day...too bad he didn't remain there.

Gil Gross did a national talk show on the CBS network for a few years back in the 90's. Enjoyable to listen to but it didn't get much traction.

Later, he co-anchored the morning news block on WWDB-FM when they attempted to get against KYW in Philadelphia. i enjoyed his work there also.

Gil was also a regular fill-in for Paul Harvey for many years. Talk about having a big radio audience.

Back in the 80s, he did the morning show on WABC for a while.

And he did at least a couple of stints, going back to the 1970s, as a news anchor on the ABC Radio Networks.

WABC had quite a few morning shows from Ross and Wilson when they went talk 30 years ago today. Gil Gross had one of the best and I never understood why he didn't last longer in AM drive. It wasn't until Curtis and Kuby that WABC stuck with a morning show more than a couple of years. Of course, Imus took over in December 2007 and remains today.

It would be nice to have a local show in Morning Drive on WABC, but as long as Imus remains it is not going to happen.

And when Imus retires, Cumulus will surely come up with something new to syndicate nationally. The #1 market in the country will sadly continue to have virtually no local talk. Very sad when markets much smaller than NY have thriving local talk radio. :(

Thats odd that KABC and WABC would automate their flagship Cumulus stations while Atlanta, Dallas and San Francisco Cumulus stations would insert their local newscasts and Local or Syndicated talk hosts and call them "News and Information Station".

It is astonishing how durable Gil Gross! NY no live local talk show? How very eerie. And I don't mean the lake upstate. But that is Cumulus. They tend to automate. Chicago has a charming husband & wife team on WGN Chicago doing overnights. Until a few months ago. They are sadly missed. Well that's show biz! I'd like to see network comedy and drama shows come back.

Some people seem to be forgetting that WABC is the flagship station for their big names. Rush and Hannity both got their big time break on the air at WABC, with Rush doing a local show plus hours on the network. Imus has been a NYC host since the 70's. The fact that other stations pick them up dos not change that fact. Yes, Rush now does his show from Florida, but he is still WABC.

A sure fire trivia question...name the WABC morning Shows between Harry Harrison and Don Imus? There have been a ton!

Am I the only one that remembers when WPLJ moved Rocky Allen to morning drive on WABC for five minutes?

Harry Harrison did AM drive on WABC for eleven years. That is the longest tenure of anybody to date. To answer that trivia question...After Harry was fired, Dan Ingram came in for morning drive, then Ross and Wilson. They made the transition to talk. Then Ross Brittain was fired, Brian did the show alone, and he was let go..Now if memory serves..after Wilson, Alan Colmes, then Dave Dawson, Steve Kane, and sidekicks Roger Skibenes and Kathleen Maloney, who later became co hosts..then Gil Gross Rocky Allen, Curtis and Kuby(the longest running morning show in the talk format to date) and Imus.

Did I leave anybody out? Is the timeline correct? That's a lot of shows in a short span of time.
