Former WKBZ...WGVS 850, Now Back On The Air As WSMZ With 250 Watts Nondirectional STA

WSMZ 850 has resumed operations with a fulltime 250 watt STA. People in Eastern Michigan have heard it with CCM and possibly some nonsecular Christmas Music. It was reported around Sunrise, during fadeouts of WKNR and KOA. One listener was using a short 160 meter vertical antenna. Many of you over in Illinois and Wisconsin may be able to hear it, since WAIT is gone, and since the DA restricted the signal to the West.

WGVS used to be a pest, specially after WAIT left the air. Let's see how they do with their temporary STA antenna, which according to the FCC is a

"90-foot grounded steel tower with top-loading. The tower is top-loaded with two wires, each 150 feet in length."

No ID yet, but music that fits the bill against KOA and another talker, probably WKNR. Will continue to work it.

At 7:30 a.m. CT, on top of the frequency with prayer.

There is also 50000 watt WQRM which is 14000 watts CH. I would think that it would be easiest to hear WSMZ on groundwave during the Day across Lake Michigan, if you are not very close to WNOV 860 Milwaukee.
