Found a nice video of analog TV E Skip someone posted on YouTube

Now that we're getting into that time of year again, I was looking on YouTube to see if any E Skip videos have been posted recently and this one came up in the search.

It's not recent but recently posted of interesting TV E Skip reception from 10 years ago where Channel 2 from Oakland interferes with their local Channel 2 from Vancouver.

Most of the video shows CBUT with strong interference from KTVU but near the end, KTVU completely takes over.

Brings back nice DXing memories of the good old analog TV days that are gone for good, unfortunately.

Kudos to whoever posted this video!

Here's one for CHBX-TV 2 Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

CTV rarely IDs individual stations. I want to get prepared for the Analog TV DX season. An "Armstrong" Rotator with a "small" Low VHF Yagi is something that may be possible. While the last analog signal in my area, Channel 42 in Sarnia, is still on, I want to use the easily optimized analog signal to find out where the attenuations are occurring, as the picture is quite snowy.

I notice in that video of CHBX reception from New Jersey there are no lines or bars due to there being no more analog stations in the US to cause the co frequency interference.

If you look on the TVFM Skip log and find someone named "FN26" (for the grid), that's Kyru, who posted the video. KTVU completely takes over CBUT's kids programming toward the end with a color, clear as a bell news promo.
This clip has been on YT for a long time but no one has posted who these stations might be - this was from Maple Ridge, BC.

What I have found out however, is the first signal is a CCI-filled KSNB 4 in Superior, NE (around :21 you can faintly see 4\\FOX//17 which corresponds to KSNB/KTVG). Wheel of Fortune mixes with it, maybe KDUH. It's also barely seen around :47 with a Sally promo. Around 3:00ish is an ID for KLNE Lexington, NE on 3. Star Trek signal is unknown, no commercials at all and no logo bugs. Either KVBC or KVVU as he remembers getting KVVU in this opening on channel 5.

The Wiarton, Ontario Channel 2 still shows in the databases. I wonder if it is on at full power, reduced power, or even if it is still on. It might have been too close to NJ for E Skip.

After my first visit to California in 1975, the following summer back in New Jersey when E Skip was happening, I was so much hoping to get a TV station from the San Francisco Bay area.

Back then, I didn't know all the dynamics of E Skip, didn't know it was actually called E Skip, and had wondered why any station I could identify was always only from the eastern half of the US or Canada.

But since E Skip on channel 2 was so common during the season, I spent countless hours glued to my black and white TV hoping to see that distinctive KTVU logo appear on the screen but it never did.

There were times where whatever stations I was getting very unstable and not clear at all and likely I was seeing double hop activity from somewhere but it was never clear or stable enough for long enough to ID any station.

Then KTVU must have had Ricki Lake at 4:00PM back in the 03-04 season, which was the final season of the trash talk "Ricki Lake".
