Four Fox News Media Employees Test Positive for Coronavirus/COVID-19

Yup, TheBigA is right. The logistics of closing all the mountain passes and blocking anyone living in 989XX/988XX/993XX etc. to head west to Seattle would be impossible to enforce.
Gradual lifting statewide of activities and stores one by one makes it easier to plan for the what if's. No one in their right mind (because we ARE a mobile society) is going to accept being locked down until January 2021. So in the meantime, in order to even get a shred of the economy back and to counter the fact of this possible 2nd wave, it should be in phases up until June/early July, which gives the WADOH, doctors and scientists a couple months time perhaps to come up with the strategy for the 2nd wave.
I would love for a miracle (blood test, medicine, etc) to happen so if the 2nd wave does occur, we don't all have to plunge back into stay-home orders and focus on just isolating the people who really are sick.

The other thing is sure they can lift restrictions in Montana and the Dakotas soon. What difference does that make in the economy? Not much. Until the big cities get back on board, the economy is on hold. That's just how it is.

I expect NYC to be the last to reopen, if ever,

I expect NYC to be the last to reopen, if ever,

And that's a problem because (1) So many people live there, (2) So many businesses are based there, (3) It's the financial capital, (4)a lot of domestic & int'l travel passes through, (5) media capital, and lots of other reasons. Sure they can transfer operations to other offices, and in many cases, already have. But when you take them out of the economy, especially if you include the entire market, that's a big chunk of money that's stuck. Couple that with other states imposing rules keeping people from that region out. Telling people we're opening the country while keeping NYC closed isn't saying a whole lot in terms of the real economy.

My view is if they're leveling out, then they can rededicate some of the medical staff to testing everyone. We need to know who is sick.

At this point I'm thinking FL/GA, but you could be right about NYC. Kemp and DeSantis just haven't done a good job with their states and tourism is going to crash. DeSantis wants to reopen schools, and supports church gatherings, which I'm sure will cause a spike in some counties. On the other hand, the West Coast will be in the clear by summer with their strict stay-home orders and relatively good social distancing.

I think what we may be looking at is some areas opening up, and then waiting to see what happens. In other words, giving it a test-drive. Frankly, I don't know how to do this any other way. The complications would be how some areas are more prone to infections than others. Even the President has hinted at this strategy. It obviously needs to be carefully monitored, and carefully maintained. I think this will occur, but a willy nilly opening could be a disaster.

In the meantime, I am already tiring of all these "stay safe" PSA's. Yeah, we get it!

I've seen so many examples of failure to keep social distancing in my part of California that I am surprised things are not worse.

- groups of obviously non-related persons riding bicycle together on the roads.
- two or more non-family people in golf carts.
- people getting out of cars with no mandatory mask on.
- people lining up for store openings and not keeping adequate distance.
- younger people cutting into lines at stores during seniors only hours.

... and so on. And that is just my experience in outings to pick up the mail, to go to the supermarket for "to our car" pickup and similar allowed tasks.

It's amazing how many people don't follow the basic self-protection rules. Given them all a Darwin Award before evolution eliminates their breed.

Well I actually had to tell not one but TWO people at Safeway the other day to turn around and go the right way on the 'one-way' aisles. While I was wearing a mask. Come on people! Most people and all employees were wearing masks - thank you people!
I have also seen groups of 4-5 people out on a run near CWU. Gah. Can you do that when we calm down from this COVID crisis?

I am optimistic that the restrictions will lift, perhaps with a very few things opened at the end of the stay-home order on 5/4. Then gradually up the ante to most if not all businesses and attractions with half caps/masks/sanitization/what have you, by July. Kittitas County has done an astonishing job - with only 14 cases out of 47K+ people, but many hundreds more could be asymptomic however. Testing is the key.
Antibody tests (if we can get some that are NOT defective, please) and phone apps ala China where you show the bus driver or TSA agent that you are in good health may have to be for the several months ahead of us post COVID. And that doesn't include the 2nd wave. Hopefully there will be an effective medicine, vaccine or immunity by then and we can go on with most life in the fall, even if some of the big things have to close for a while.

Crainbebo, you know I like reading your posts, but IMO this is not the time to be correcting people on walking the wrong way in a grocery aisle. We need to be together with this, and we should offer forgiveness now more than ever.

Perhaps. I was being nice, but I know I can only control myself. There was a Seattle Times report the other day saying how shoppers were confused at the new rules. I know it's for safety and social distancing and all but how much is too much? I look forward to when the plexiglass and one-way aisles go away, even temporarily.

Yeah me too. I hope we get back to normal soon!
