Fox 61 - Major News Expansion in A.M. and at 11 P.M.

really? I signed one of those about 14 years ago and was laid off by that employer last year, I guess if I wished to I could now compete against them, except that the market for that type of work is virtually dead as most of it is now done in India. (I don't know how the place stays open)

Hartford Business is reporting that WTIC-TV will soon expand its morning newscast to air from 4:30 - 9:00 a.m, and will add another cast at 11:00 p.m. Sometime next year the station will add noon and 5:00 p.m. newscasts.http://www.hartfordbusiness.com/news6032.html

I wonder if NBC30 reported this during their nightly Hartford Business Journal segment? :p

Anyway, this is big news for the Hartford-New Haven market! They must be doing pretty well with their new FOX61 Morning Show to have the confidence to try to pull something like this off... a 4:30-9 a.m. show, and news at Noon, 5, 10 and 11 p.m.!

It's also good for the viewers of CT. Competition typically makes for a better market. Ever since the new Morning Show on FOX61 debuted, you can see the changes 3, 8, and 30 made in the morning. The biggest change I noticed is at channel 3 where their morning newscast is no longer disfunctional like it used to be.

The article said FOX61 is adding 20-25 members to its news staff and is going after some 'familiar faces' at 3, 8, and 30 whose contracts are up. I know Tom Lewis recently went to 61. But any ideas who these other 'familiar faces' might be?

It's going to be an exciting year for the market with this news about FOX61, as well as NBC30 whose getting a new building and possibly new owner.

I'm not in New England, but following along with the story, the new Tribune regime sounds seriously about expanding more news programming. WGN in Chicago and KWGN in Denver are adding new evening newscasts in the next couple of months, and it's soon-to-be converted Fox station in San Diego is expanding its morning and primetime news when their switch from The CW is offical in August.

Tom Lewis jumps ships a lot. Was first at 8 for awhile and while their he did weather sometimes then jumped over to NBC 30 and now 61. And as for NBC 30 they seem to be having a lesser and lesser staff these days. Im surprised they haven't cut a newscast.

Remind me again why WTIC fired Michael Friedman and Amy Lundy? They said cost cutting, then they expand their news department? Schizophrenia, hypocrisy, or some other issues that go well beyond the scope of just dollars and cents. I'm picking answer C.

I finally caught Fox 61's early morning news and I have to say I like it. The anchor is upbeat, friendly and attractive and the interplay between her and Joe Fury fits quite well. It looks like they are adopting the say logo-set as Fox 5 New York (perhaps aligning themselves with a more uniformed identity of the other Fox stations?). News was well written and well presented. It was actually very enjoyable to watch.

I hope they can manage to get more Fairfield County news in - I would love to remove channel 8 from my presets!
