Fox O&O's to replace syndicated shows at late night for Late Night news

Why don't they save some real money and just turn the transmitters off? It would be just as informative as repeating old news from early morning.

You mean going back to those "sign-off days"?

"KSAZ now concludes its broadcast day for all you people who don't waste good money on useless cable channels or stay up all night while more productive members of our society get their much needed sleep. Join us again tomorrow morning when we will again present another boring day of faux talents presenting useless facts along with our usual cast of "judge" shows which illustrate the basest of the human condition. For you cable subscribers we have another thrilling nighttime presentation of The Greatest Infomercials of All Time." As the Chyron screens: "Thenk Yew Four Witching KSAZTV"

That is such a backwards way to look at things, especially when people don't all have your standard 9-5 jobs. Many people work in service industries, or even technical support (IT) that might have odd hours. So, someone may work an 8 hour day that starts at 1PM and ends at 9. A repeat of the 10PM News at 11PM makes total sense as they may not be home to watch the 10PM news.

You know, unless you want to give up going out to eat, shopping for groceries or other items, or conducting any business outside of the 8-5PM model. If so, be prepared for the potential of sporadic power outages, cable outages, water, outages, more daytime road construction, etc. Just because someone works outside the "normal" hours doesn't mean they aren't productive members of society.

There are still stations that do that. KEYC in Mankato, MN is such an example
FOX sub signs off around 12:30 and the main CBS is 1:07am. They dont sign back on until 5AM

(on cable KEYC shows paid programs whereas KEYC-DT2 FOX is just color bars and FOX Mankato logo)

You are assuming, of course, there is "new" news to report between morning and afternoon. My observation is there is rarely anything truly new after the morning broadcasts - unless you are watching TMZ of course.

What's funny about this is that they never mentioned who's getting the 11:30pm ET/10:30pm CT news.

I'm confused. Will the news be provided locally by the O&Os, or from Fox News? I can tell you that in the Bay Area, the latter would be hard to swallow for liberal Bay Area viewers, even if it's just news without right-wing commentary. The Fox News network has no credibility here. KTVU - only a Fox O&O for a couple of years now, has been very careful about using Fox News. Some of the network on-scene reports are included in KTVU's newscasts, but that's about it. For that matter, even Murdoch & Co. have been careful to draw a line between the entertainment networks (Fox, FX, etc.) and Fox News. Fox (entertainment) is arguably the most 'liberal' of the Big 4 in that they push the envelope of what's acceptable more than the others, IMO. This also applies to the film corporations - 21st Century Fox and Fox Searchlight. They produce some daring content that doesn't exactly jibe with Fox News' conservative approach. I don't think News Corp wants to conflate the two wings, if you will.

Fox17 has the most news of any of the locals they go from 4:30AM to 9AM then it's the Morning Mix at 9AM then at Midday News at 11AM, then 3 hours of news from 4PM to 7PM then 10PM to 11:30PM. Does Fox O&O's have a 6PM newscast on weekend or do they put syndie shows or paid programming.

A centrally produced Fox program might make sense in such a slot. This won't be free, as the union members will have to be paid.

I'm sure FNC could throw together a half hour show combining a rundown of Top National Stories and then commentary from Carlson, Hannity, Cavuto and 'The Five'. This would be better than adding another half hour to the local newscast.
