Fox Sports Ohio buys STO for $230 million..

I would think STO may be used as overflow in case of conflicts.

You're gonna have Tribe/Cavs and Tribe/Jackets conflicts in April, and Cavs/Jackets conflicts throughout winter, so STO would be best served as the overflow channel (taking the lesser priority game).

Forget about seeing Reds games...The Tribe has territory rights to NE Ohio. Columbus would be the only city in STO's footprint that would have to deal with Tribe/Reds conflicts, and they'll get both games as C-Bus is neutral turf.

Toledo gets both FS Detroit and FS Ohio, so they could get both the Tribe and the Tigers easily.

Here in CMH we get FS Ohio and FS Cinci which has the same programming as FS Ohio but carries the Reds... Before STO launched FS Ohio carried Indians games.

Would Fox actually consider seperating the Cleveland and Cincinnati feeds, by referring to them as FS Cleveland, and FS Cincinnati?. Because right now, they're both under the FS Ohio banner.

If that was to happen. they would almost need to make a FS Columbus because either you would have to carry both FS Cleveland & FS Cincinnati. and one of them wouldnt be able to carry Jackets games in Columbus on either the Cleveland or Cincinnati feed if they split FS Ohio into 2 seperate feeds again. since odds are both FS Cleveland & FS Cincinnati would need clearance in Columbus

It also would be an issue in the Toledo DMA, as well as around Lima.
My money says we'll see STO turned into a Fox Sports Ohio 2 (don't know if that will be the name). Obviously there'd still be the issue of no Reds/no Indians in certain areas, but the smart thing to do would be to put the Tribe and Reds on separate channels as well as separating the Cavaliers and Jackets. I don't see it working to put all Cleveland sports on one channel and all Cincinnati on another, but maybe that's their thinking. No way do I see just one channel working from here forward. There's just too much inventory to deal with.

Well the channel currently known as STO I think will exist in some form.

You don't spend $230M on a network just to pull the plug on it.

It could be analogous to Miami, where they have both FS Florida and Sun Sports (both owned by Fox) or Atlanta, where they have FS South and SportSouth (again both owned by Fox) or L.A., where there's FS West and Prime Ticket (both owned by...guess who).

It can work.

It can work.

The big difference with Florida and Atlanta is down there, you're dealing with teams that have claimed a lot of overlapping areas. The Rays and Marlins each claim all of Florida, which simplifies things.

How can I explain this:

Picture a map of the state of Ohio.

Now cut out a section with Port Clinton as the western most point, Ashtubula as the eastern most point, and Canton as the southern most point.

That section will not see the Reds, as the Indians have claimed NE Ohio as their territory.

That section gets both STO and FSO. So whenever there's a Tribe/Cavs, Tribe/Jackets, or Cavs/Jackets conflict, one will be on FSO and the other on STO (probably the higher priority game airs on FSO).

Columbus has FSO, an FSO overflow channel, and STO. I'm sure there will be something arranged where C-Bus can get both the Reds and the Tribe.

Toledo has FS Ohio, FS Detroit, and STO, so they'll get both the Tigers and the Tribe, as well as having the various Tribe/Cavs/Jackets conflicts covered. (Toledo is out of the Reds territory).

No it's not. You might have missed my earlier post where I mentioned Toledo gets Reds games on FS Ohio. Lucas County, however, is the only county in northwest Ohio that does not get the Blue Jackets. Even places such as Perrysburg, right across the Maumee River from Toledo, are in-market for the Jackets.
I do get the gist of your post though ... are you thinking both channels will have multiple feeds and what is now STO will be available in Cincinnati for the first time, albeit as FS Ohio 2 or whatever they will call it?

I guess that Toledo is considered Red Wings territory, thus the blockout.

I'm thinking more that STO will be the FSO multiple feed.

Does Toledo get FS Ohio? I know they get STO, and on Time Warner Cable in Port Clinton (where I hang my hat a good deal of time) they have FSO, FS Detroit, and STO. I figured the situation would be similar just down the road in T-Town, but I could be wrong I guess.

My whole point was STO (as is, as FSO 2, or whatever) will exist. And using the examples of Sun Sports, SportsSouth, and Prime Ticket, I wanted to show that Fox can own multiple regional sports networks in the same city, and thus have plenty of room to be covered in case of conflicts.

When it gets right down to it, The Tribe is gonna be on FSO, and they'll have to figure out the logistics.

The main parts of the Tribe's viewing area (Port Clinton to Asthubula W-E, Cleveland to Canton N-S) will be OK. And I'm sure something will be arranged in C-Bus.

Agree on all your points. Toledo does get FS Ohio, although it was removed from Buckeye Cable for about a year after the Indians moved to STO. That in itself shows how the small Reds fanbase is there, but it does exist. If the people I know up there are correct as to why FS Ohio was returned, it was for Cavaliers games, not the Reds (as an aside, when I was in college from 1996-2000 Toledo was NOT in-market for the Cavs. At some point, that changed, so maybe the Jackets situation will change as well.).
As far as Columbus, the way it was when the Reds and Indians shared both channels was the Indians took priority on the Columbus feed and the Reds were bumped to an alternate channel in cases of conflict. That's the way it was all the way back to the SportsChannel days in the mid-1990s. That wasn't so bad when the Indians had 80 or so games on WUAB, but when they went cable-exclusive, the Reds almost never were on the main feed here. Compounding that, the alternate channel wasn't always the same and sometimes cable companies didn't pipe in the game, so the Reds on some nights weren't seen by a large chunk of audience in a city that's always been important to them.
And additionally, whenever the Reds and Indians played each other, the Reds' feed wasn't shown on cable because the companies figured they already had the game via the Indians feed, so why bother showing the other?
All that is why I hate to see them back on the same network, and hope the Fox people are smart enough to keep them on separate channels.
