Fox's Anchorwoman starts filming next month at CBS19 in Tyler

And for yet another viewpoint, my ol' buddy Paul Kyser, former production wizard at KTBB/KDOK, weighs in with a hilarious story of our encounter with Stormy the Wonderdog. Plus he's got a few thoughts about Anchorwoman as well. Funny, funny stuff....

Encountering Stormy on TV was more than enough abuse for me. Great stuff on the blog; thanks for letting us know. Paul was hilarious when he did evenings on KDOK, conveying so much with subtle changes in his tone and his use of pregnant pauses. KDOK hasn't been the same at night since he left (and I figure Meatloaf is getting less than 10% of the airplay he did when Kyser was there). Paul's a smart guy. He'll be a credit to the medical profession.

"Win a date with Lauren" billboards? Hurley has really jumped the shark with this one.

Noteworthy: Lauren has already appeared on CBS19 - and the whole of the CBS Television Network for that matter. She was a one-off Barker's Beauty for five weeks in April and May on The Price is Right. Quite a capable model, she. But then, pointing at stuff is a far cry from reading off a prompter. Somehow, I don't have a lot of confidence in this project, but it still intrigues me.

But those billboards are just hideous. That pouty fashion model image just screams "credible news reporter", doesn't it?

If I'm running CBS19, and someone at FOX were to demand we strip our station and its newscasts of all reference to the big, black eye (which they have no business doing in my view), I'd be demanding FOX pay 110% for the makeover, however temporary it might be. After all, they came to it rather than the other way around.

Oh geez Bill, I'm practically in tears, I'm laughing so hard. I visited CBS 19 back in February. A few of my Fox 51/KLTV alumns have crossed the Loop to go to work there. I met Stormy myself. He seemed like a sweet dog, but I was wondering myself, "Who Lets The Dog Out?!" I'm sure he leaves a lot of little rain puddles and some "mud" around the building. He seems to have free run of the building. KPRC Channel 2 here in Houston had a weather dog for awhile, too. I think when they realized people were laughing at them, and not with them, that the Dog's contract was not renewed. I love dogs, but there is a time and place.

I'm seeing an idea for a new billboard... it's Stormy saying, "Check Out Our Warm Fronts!" Have that shot of Lauren in the bikini. 19 NEWS... "Where There's More To News Than The Meets The CBS Eye!"

On another note, congrats to Paul on his new career path. That's outstanding! I remember how great he was at 96X back in the day.

Ok, I have to weigh in. I'm a anchor/reporter in a top 10 market. I know we all have to start somewhere with limited qualifications and in a small market. But, this is a little insulting. Are her assets physical?... as evidenced by videos on YouTube and photo on Wikipedia. Or is the asset.. talent, intelligence, credibility? A pretty face will get you in the door, it does not necessarily keep you in the game. My reality lasts a little longer than 30 days in a small market with little breaking news. That means few live shots, adlibbing over fresh scenes. At our shop, the interns have to take a current events test. Can Lauren tell us the leader of North Korea, how about the pronunciation of the prosecutor in the Duke Lacross case... how about the name of the Texas governor? Anyone, anyone.. Bueller Bueller?

I thought Corpus Christi television was bad. Watching the 5 PM news with Ms. Jones is downright painful. She's not reading off the prompter, she's shuffling papers! My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the FOX crew who somehow, through editing miracles, are going to piece this mess into an actual TV series. I'd hate to have that daunting task.

First it was the farce of Stormy the Dog and now it's amateur anchor time. What a joke all of this has become. On a personal note, I don't know if I was having computer problems but I swear when I went to the CBS19 site it barked at me. It it did, that's just wrong.

You're not dreaming about the website barking at you. If you "mouse over" Stormy's picture at the top, it barks at you. ;D

Hilarious, I'm glad you cleared that up, I would have thought I was losing my mind if I heard the computer barking at me. I want to hear from the folks at the Tyler shop. They've got a better behind the scenes look than anyone else. Or how about viewers from there. Give us the recon. I realize this is just a springboard to bigger and better things for the anchor/bikini model/WWE diva... but considering its our business... our trade... our livelihood... its turning into a joke.

I sincerely hope that this doesn't blow up in anyone's face.

I hope, too, that they don't portray Tyler in a negative light.

Time will tell, though....

Lauren Jones....take 66.

It's official--Hurley has taken leave of what was left of his common sense. The full page ads in the Tyler and Longview newspapers were more suited to a hootchie-kootchie promotion than to a news product, including the air brushed-out belly button and the barely concealed hooters. And Hurley's appearance on a Fox live shot was seen and heard by a lot of people, including the brass at CBS. If there were no questions before about what the dickens a CBS affiliate is doing playing handsies with the Fox network, there surely are now.

As for Miss Jones--her delivery is awful, despite the supposed rehearsel time she had prior to going on-air. She's reading individual words rather than grouping them into phrases, among myriad problems.

The list goes on...and on...and on. The first installment is hardly in the can and the shadows are yet to lengthen on Jones' debut (or debutt) on-the-air, and already the charade is falling into the dumper.

Forgive KYTX and its VP-GM. Neither knows what it does.

My question is, do they use "Brick House" by the Commodores, "She's A Bad Mamma Jamma" by Carl Carlton, or even the more obscure "She Talks To Me With Her Body" by The Bar Kays for Bump Music during the time she's on camera?! Has HOOTER'S bought any air time yet on the station? (I'd pay to see a Hooter's open up in Tyler, just to see what the reaction would be. ;) ). I hear that KFC there has come up with the LAUREN JONES MEAL... two breasts, two thighs, two legs, and nothing nutritional or substantial in the whole meal... just like her newscasts.

The analogy is something more than appropos.

I got such a kick imagining that KFC having a huge banner out front advertising it. But you're right. It is very timely.

You're not in town anymore Snoman, but the CBS19 studios (formerly the LazerTag place, formerly the Cinema 4) bump right up against the KFC. It's a naturally perfect marketing synergy.

She ain't good. She's not that much worse than some of the other people you can see on the weekends, though.

What's strange to me is after all the sex-u-up marketing, she's very toned down on the air. Her hair is pulled back, and she doesn't stand out as a former model.

Well, no more so than any of the other former beauty pageant contestants in the market, I guess.

Yeah, that's why I chose KFC, because I knew it was right next door to the studios. I could of gone with two extra large scoops of Ice Cream from Braums, across the street as well, but I didn't go there.

I've hammered Lauren pretty hard, and you're right, she's not as bad as some people I've seen. However, if she wants to be an anchor/reporter, go about it the right way... go to school, take some journalism courses, do the legwork, intern at a successful station, and then start your career in a market like Tyler/Longview or smaller. The way she's going about it and the way 19 is going about this is below the belt. I need to talk to a few of my friends there to find out what they really think. I've been asking some of my friends who work in the Newsroom and on-air at the station I work for, in Houston, and they have said they could deal with that, and they'd probably leave, if we were to try something like that.

I've seen a lot of those "beauty contest" anchor/reporters make it as far as Mid 100 markets. Normally the talent pool catches up with them by then, and they realize that their looks and body will only get them so far. Miss Lauren will probably find herself back in the wrestling ring, before she finds herself behind the anchor desk. If she does happen to land a worthwhile gig, it will probably be entertainment reporting. I just can't see her doing hard news for a career.

Couldn't Phil Hurley stoop any lower other than the underground sewer? It appears that CBS19 has just demoralized broadcast journalism as we speak at this writing.

BUT WAIT!!! I just had a thought: How about if KYTX switch network affiliations with KFXK. 19 would be Fox and 51 would be back to CBS (just like that from the old KLMG years)? But then again, with 51, that would create a conflict with Shreveport's CBS powerhouse at KSLA-12. Oh well, I tried.

If Hurley screws up something THIS immoral at 19, be on the lookout for a massive witchhunt. Church groups, the FCC.....Hell 19 would may as well go independent.
