FRESH 100 AT 100.3 FM HAS BEEN SOUNDING TOP 40-ISH LATELY. HAS ANYBODY ELSE NOTICED THIS?

FRESH 100 at 100.3 FM here in DETROIT is now playing mostly new TOP 40/CHR/ HOT AC - Contemporary Hits Radio music now, and I like that.

The new soft Top 40 Hits playlist at FRESH 100 fits their name "fresh".

Fresh 100 plays very little hip hop, the only hip hop artists played on Fresh 100 are Gym Class Heroes - Stereo Hearts and Black Eyed Peas - Just Can't Get Enough.

Hot AC is the new CHR today. Most CC Hot AC stations sound alike. Black Eyed Peas have been played on Hot AC for years since Fergie joined the group.

Even though I don't listen to Fresh 100.3, I do know that based on your analysis of Hot AC, that Hot AC today is similar to CHR. If any of you remember, WKQI sounded like this in the late 90s.

Hot AC has become more open to rhythmic-leaning songs, which is why they sound more CHR-ish now. 20 years ago, Usher and Rihanna would get very little hot AC airplay, as the format was much more into alternative and other guitar-driven hits.

I did look at WNIC's playlist and it's a straight-ahead hot AC. Since Channel is their sister station, I don't expect WNIC to get much closer to them musically.

Exactly. while 105.1 is considered to be Fresh's main competition, 100.3 could also be trying to take on 96.3... somewhat to limit the damage that they do to 95.5, and bring their share down a little-WDVD had a 4.8 or 4.9 late last year if I recall-.

Unless the demos have improved substantially, the conversion to 'Fresh' has been a disaster.

I predict their cume falls below 1M in the next book with continued deterioration in their AQH.

I have to believe that revenue is cratering for this station.

Looks like you were right. Cume for WNIC in Apr 2012 was 994,900, falling from 1,027,700. WMGC is on the rise.

And they thought it was bad as mainstream AC? CC tried this with WMYI in Greenville SC...very similar situation, and it is tanking also.

Even though I don't mind AC, I still think WNIC (Fresh 100.3) has donr the station no good. This might be why they're starting to sound like an Adult CHR.

@atlantaboy

It's far less then they were getting with the old format.

A decline of that size can be nothing other than a disaster.
