From its new $38-million home, can radio tastemaker KCRW adapt to a podcast world?

Not unlike the recently opened new studios for KEXP in Seattle:

Radio stations are becoming community institutions where listeners can gather and take the audio experience beyond transmitters and towers.

This has parallels to the early history of radio, where people would gather in concert halls to experience shows like the Louisiana Hayride and the Grand Ole Opry.

I visited the new studios a year ago as I contributed under KCRW's Capital Plan - funds that directed toward construction of the new studios. John, it was amazing - three floors and there is a mural on the wall that goes three floors up with the names of donors like 'yours truly' - I was touched. I hope to revisit when I can find the time.
