From New London: 104.7 The Wolf and NewsTalk 102.3 swapping frequencies

And judging by the volumes of commentary, it seems like another case of "Oh look. One of those places east of the CT River seems to be doing something....................................do they have indoor plumbing out there?"

Marc, do you know if 104.7 still has their studios at the Mohegan Sun? I remember being there once and feeling bad for the jocks because people walking by probably made them feel like caged animals.

Yes. The about us page on their website says they are and mentions that the station is a joint venture between Citadel and The Mohegan Sun. Their offices of course are with the other Citadel Stations on Governor Winthrop Blvd.

Personal note to Jeff: I tried to bring this topic up on The Racket Friday Night, but got only 10 seconds to say "Two stations in New London are swapping frequencies." I was the last call of the nite and only got to speak for about 8 mins all about my job and my cat. They put me on at 1:54AM and I hung up at about 2:02AM. After I blurted out the stations were owned by Citadel George said "That's Jeff Ryan news since he used to work up there."

Guess Classic Rock isn't doing so well, perhaps?
I assume it's a "demotion" to 102.3 because of a weaker signal.

Yeah I always listen on the way up to the casino... and never understood why the station at the casino didn't come in at the casino. Good idea of course.

Must be all the wires and everything else at Mohegan Sun. Where is the signal coming from? Also when your at a retail store playing with the radios you can't sometimes get the radio station in that good.

I think it comes from the east end of Long Island. As for retail stores and the FM, kind of true, at least where I work at in Newington. The AM is nearly non-existant, save for a very weak 840, 910 and 1410. On the TV side, we can't get a lick of analog 3 or 8. Digital reception of 3, 18, 30 and 61 are fair at best.

I take back my signal strength comment. 104.7 is transmitted from Long Island, so if you're on the shoreline, that frequency comes in really well. It has NOTHING to do with any wiring at the Mohegan Sun. It's distance. The 102.3 frequency transmits from the Westerly, RI area, so it should be a much clearer signal in Norwich/New London.

As I wrote in another post, when you have to mono out an FM signal (102.3) just to make it "tolerable", you're in pretty sad shape, IMHO. I guess Citadel doesn't care much about it's news/talk station to sacrafice it like this.
