From The Wonderful Montgomery TV and Radio Web Site

I just discovered that 100.5 and 107.1 FM in Montgomery are now on and are relaying these formats:

107.1 FM: http://www.yo1071.com/ WQKS HD 2
100.5 FM: http://www.litemontgomery.com/ WQKS HD 3

Thanks to b5 and his site for posting this information.

Hope these two new stations will do very well and have major success.

I'm rooting for you Mr. Gower and Bluewater Broadcasting.

Made a typo.

Just discovered my own mistake.

Now I want to make a correction to it.

The HD 2 is Lite
The HD 3 is Yo!

Hope you'll forgive me Mr. Gower for making that mistake.

Still I'll be rooting for your new stations to do very well and have success.

Love you Bluewater.

I inadvertently found Lite 100.5 while using the tunein app on my ipod a few days ago. I listened for a while and wasn't too impressed. Sounds very much like Mix 103 to me. They are going to have an uphilll battle with that, I believe...having a low power translator compete against a class C FM with what appears to be an identical format. Good luck with that... ::)

OK I'm confused. I coulda swore I read that the stations would debut in August, but they're on now? Is the HD on now for 96.1?

They're not on the air yet. Only streaming.

I've seen the so-called coverage maps, but picking up 100.5 could be a challenge unless you're in the center of town. 100.5 on the east side is a mix of WLWI, Y-102, Mix 103 bleedover from the tower behind Eastdale Mall. The scan always stops at that mess. Best of luck to them

Actually, a mediabase analysis of Mix vs. Lite shows a low of 7% duplication of music to about 23% in a randomly selected group of hours - actual playlists. That means 76% of the music on Lite (at worst) is not duplicated on Mix - and visa versa. How does that make them similar? Study up before you pontificate boys. Btw, according to the engineering filed with the FCC, Lite will 60db over 210,000 metro persons. Oh, and The Gump beat the Fox from atop Jackson Hospital in men 25-54. Aren't they getting an upgrade too?

From listening to Lite for about an hour's time, I found a good portion of the music to be the same as Mix. The average radio listener isn't looking at a "mediabase analysis" of a station's programming...only whether they can hear a difference in sound between stations, as far as what music is being played. If Mix's listeners can't hear that differentiation between the two stations, why would it convince them to switch?I listen to Mix occasionally here in south Shelby county. It's "tolerable" for an adult contemporary/soft AC station I suppose, but I can't really tell much difference in the music between Mix and Lite.Ultimately, the listener's perception of a station's format is based on what I mentioned above, not station management's self-analysis of the playlist.

And how many persons does Mix 103 cover? Quite a bit more than 210,000 I would surmise.

Passtheword, you obviously know not of which you speak. If 75% of the music on two stations are different - and not by "occasionally listening" but by an hour by hour analysis of what Actually played they are not by logic similar. They are predominantly dissimilar. You are if course entitled to pontificate, but the rest of us are entitled to ignore you baseless opinion. Oh, and that 211,000 is out of a metro of 295,000. Who listens to Mix in Dallas county is totally irrelevant. Oh, just one more thing - I am not who you think I am. I dont have a dog in this hunt.

Joseph (aka passtheword)

MIX = 12-16 minutes of commercials an hour, Endless chatter in the morning, and John Tesh.
LITE = 2:30 minutes of commercials an hour (as hourly sponsorship's), no jocks, or John Tesh.

The Gump has proven you don't need jocks, a witty morning show, or a 100,000 watt signal to win your demo.

Shut-up, play a lot of music and the listeners will stick. For some, Lite WILL BE a refreshing alternative to Mix.

I'm just stating what I heard in the hour or so I listened. In all fairness, I may not have listened enough time to make a fair determination, but from what I did hear, many of particular tracks were identical to that on Mix's playlist. Btw, we all have opinions here and even though I disagree with you, I do respect yours. As such, I would appreciate if I could be afforded the same and that my opinions not be regarded as "baseless". My apologies to you if I offended you...that, of course, was not the intention of my post. I do listen to Mix from time to time and I am familiar with what music they play. I just do not see how Lite will survive on that miniscule signal, in comparison to Mix's...not to mention Mix is the legendary and established AC in the market, being on the air more than 20 yrs now. This is the third reincarnation of the "lite" format on 96.1 (two separate times on the main signal and now on an HD channel), I do understand that although the "lite" format is now being done under a different owner than previously (with Stroh), but If the format couldn't compete against Mix on the main signal, a class A, I can't see how will it be successful operating on an HD channel, for which there is almost zero interest, and a translator which barely covers Montgomery. Ultimately, the listeners will be making the final determination as to whether Lite will be successful. It'll be interesting to see what happens, regardless.

Lite's 60 dBu contour looks to cover all of the city of Montgomery and a lot of the surrounding communities.

BUT, having said that, my experience with translators shows that this cover depends as much on the listener's radio as anything. Down here in Darwin's Waiting Room (Mobile) WBHY just put a translator on for their AM station. It's highly direction from the WBHY-FM tower in Spanish Fort towards Mobile.

With my Insignia portable, which is considered a very good portable radio, I can only pick them up within eyesight of the tower. Anywhere else, and along the Causeway between SF and Mobile, where the major lobe should be, is nothing but static. Why? The signal is there, the radio's just overwhelmed by millions of watts of RF from all the city's TV and radio stations which broadcast from towers that are ALL line of site to that area. It's a mess.

Similarly, Lite, Yo! and whoever else is on in the Gump have to have trouble around the tower that houses WXFX, WLWI, WMXS, etc. The translator on 104.9 was also swamped on some radios the last time I was in the part of town.

Maybe on good car radios this isn't an issue, but for people listening at home or work, translators can be an uphill fight unless they go online.

How many of us remember that 96.1 FM - which was at the time to be "the last new radio station ever in Montgomery" started out as WLNE-FM (Light And Easy FM 96) - just one notch above old time easy listening. I guess Lite 100.5 comes full circle, although it appears to have far far more vocals. And yes, I think especially with the fewer commercials and less talk (and YAY no John Tesh) there will be an audience. Good luck to Lite and Yo and continued so to the Gump.
