FULL 6PM NEWSCAST FROM CHANNEL3 WTIC HARTFORD, MARCH 1, 1974

Wow! Won't this be some treat! The earliest times I can remember watching them myself would've been maybe 1978 or 1979 (I'm 39 year old now).
 
Grrrrrr.... I hate Quicktime. It never works right on any of my computers. I wasn't even able to view this clip. I'll keep trying.


EDIT: Ok thanks to some kind of miracle I got it to work. I'm watching now. This should be good!
 
It took a while to load up, but it did eventually play. The story they did on Hartford area transit was very eye opening! The shots of Interstate 84 and the 84/91 interchange were barely recognizable! <:eek:

That's OK, because at that time one could hardly call the intersection I-84 & I-91 an "interchange". To get from 84 east to 91 north required exiting at Ann St, getting onto West Service Road, going under an underpass near the city dump to get on I-91 north!

What surprised me about watching this, in retrospect, was (a) not 1 female reporter on this newscast, even after the first wave of feminism in the early '70s, and (b) George Ehrlich's casual remark about how he'd "never seen a coach who looked like that", regarding the gymnastics instructor (That probably wouldn't fly today). The lack of bumper music was pretty striking as well (Even Channel 8 at this time was using the "Action News" music), just varying slides saying "6 O'Clock Report will return".

This was, indeed, a real treat & a fascinating time capsule. Now if only someone at 3 could pull out a tape of the old Monday Night 7 O'Clock Movie Intro, and post that!
