FUTURE OF PHILLIES RADIO IN PHILADELPHIA

Sorry, you're right. It's a 50 KW clear channel. What I meant to say was they don't have any 50 kw clear channel non-directional stations.

You can get 1500 up in New York, but travel 30 miles southwest from DC instead of northeast and it's very difficult or impossible to receive.

Now, I actually think they will sign a contract for 2012 with CBS radio and Greater Media with the games remaining on 1210 WPHT-AM and moving to 97.5 WPEN-FM.

Unlikely. The reason for the AM/FM simulcast in Washington with the stations under different ownerships is to fill in signal gaps in some areas.

Not so unlikely. There are areas within the eight-county metro in which WPHT does not come in well. I know you are from outside the market and this may not be true for the New York class A AM stations but there are parts of 'burbs where you can barely hear the game through the noise and static. It happens regardless of what those maps on Radio-Locator say.

Could the groundwave/skywave cancellation zone be closer because of 1210's tower height? I'm about 70 miles from Philly and I notice groundwave/skywave interference at night.

Maybe the MLB doesn't want games on the 50000 watt clear channels because out of market fans will just listen on the radio rather than purchase a subscription.

Perhaps they can get a deal with 950/97.5 and 97.3 to have FM coverage in the entire market.

97.3 ESPN-FM has joined the Eagles' network for next season (presuming they play). Late season Phillies' games would have to be transfered to another Atlantic City station. :)

What about the Phillies going to WIP in 2012? Good idea or bad idea?

The Phillies shouldn't move to 610. The Phillies should stay at 1210 and the entire format from 610 should meet them over there. :)

Which Philly FM station does better in those counties than 1210 does?

Around Glenmoore, PA, radio-locator says 1210 and 97.5 both come in on weak signals. In my car radio, 1210 has a lot of static, and 97.5 comes in clear most of the time. 1210's transmitter is some 35 miles away and WPEN-FM is 31 miles away. WIP-AM would be a good candidate, WIP comes in completely 100% clear in western Chester County.
