Gary Burbank is up for induction into the Radio Hall Of Fame

Former WLW, WHAS and WAKY air personality Gary Burbank is up for induction into the Radio Hall of Fame. This guy is the BEST music jock I ever heard. (79 WAKY in Louisville, Ky.) A great entertainer and a good guy who deserves to be in The Hall. Please vote for Gary at radiohof.org. Or go to waky1035.com. We have a link on our website to make it easy. Thank you...Les Cook

Amen. Gary is one of the best.... although some of his comments were almost responsible for me running into a guardrail on I-75 more than once because I was laughing my arse off. And his alter-ego... Earl Pitts Uh-MUR-ih-kun.... CLASSIC? Ya know what makes me sick.... so sick I could bite the volume control knob off a Motorola car radio....

Yo, don't forget Gary's early-seventies reign as morning mouth on The Big 8... CKLW. Whoa, he was great. I was on the air in picturesque & historic Toledo at the time, fortunately not up against GB--he just kicked everybody's butt in the Glass City (well, everybody but SPD--but their audience was all 85+). Never heard such a huge sigh of relief from so many markets at the same time as when Burbank left Motown in his rearview mirror. (Rumor has it that CK had a pretty good signal, back then)!

He's got my vote.

Perhaps his induction ceremony could pre-empt his replacements, Tracy Jones and Eddie Fingers, one afternoon. As Gilbert Gnarley would say, "Hokhay? Hokhay!"

I can add with no reservations that my best day in radio was the day I was summoned to Gary's office at WLW. Man, did I think I was in BIG trouble! Instead, completely by surprise, he took me into his studio, told me that he thought I was great, and dubbed me as his full-time fill-in host. WTF? I'd been his sports anchor for a time (succeeding the great Andy Mac in '97) and for Gary to hand me the reigns was unbelievable. Only true radio "sufficianados" could appreciate that kind of experience. My first show as guest host featured NFL legend Larry Csonka in the studio for "Sports or Consequences" and phoners from Alan Dershowitz and Ron Jeremy. A guy who scored and two whores. Pretty typical day.

Doc, Duke, Rob, et. al. are also the best. They should be inducted into the HOF along with Gary. After having worked with former WAKY legends Johnny Randolph and Buddy Scott, I'm lucky to have also shared a mic with Garish.

All the Best,
Eric Page

Count me in as one of those who loved Gary's style and cast of characters!!!

It was always great to have "Howlin' Blind Muddy Slim Your Sixty Minute Jelly Belly Toe Jam Man's Blues Break 201" kick off the weekend at 4:30 on Fridays. Even better when he would threaten to "cut you up real bad" at the end of the show.

lets see--garish was the consumate entertainer
gilbert gnarley
earl pitts uh-mare-ick-an, "pitts off"
big fat short stubby bald guy 'i'm really tellin youse da truthe"
sports or consequences--blowing up the lame contestants who didn't play by the rules
gRANDMA GOT RUN OVER BY A REINDEER
babs, the barking dogs and singing sheep doing "jingle bells"
all my bengals
doc, kevin, seg, andy mac, eric, the cast of thousands
traffic reports that made sense with john phillips
weather with pat berry from wlwt-tv5
the sendups of the evening news headlines--especially when jerry was at channel 12, before becoming mayor
his send up of the commercials--way better than snl tried to copy...

i still remember and enjoy the laughs gary created when i listened over the years.

any chance cc can rehire him at 5x his original contract, with a new 5 yr deal every 3 yrs, like they used to do? one can only wish...... ;D :D :) 8) ;)

Actually, Jerry Springer was on Channel 5 in Cincy, not 12. He's 67 years old, and he has been on for over 40 years, so he probably doesn't want to come back for a full-time gig.

Earl Pitts is on our local news-talk station, and he can sometimes be funny, but it's usually the same political jokes he's always had.

Does anyone here have the full story on how Gary got in trouble with then-owner Marge Schott of the Reds to the extent that he couldn't even mention her by actual name? I thought he could only call her by another name like "Saint CEO" or something like that .
