Gay Couple ‘Hart to Hart’ Revival in the Works at NBC

NBC is developing a revival of the series “Hart to Hart” what would recast the central Robert Wagner-Stefanie Powers characters from the original as a gay couple.

Sony Pictures Television is set to produce the project with Carol Mendelsohn.

The original “Hart to Hart” starred Wagner and Powers as a wealthy couple who serve as amateur detectives. It ran for five seasons on ABC.

Yeah, well:

CSI clones are
Boring me
Senseless

All
Bad
Comedies

Feeble
Ordinary and
Xenophobic

OK - I couldn't find a good X word.

I'm finding less and less reason to watch ANY of the big 4 networks. I don't like reality shows, most sitcoms suck, and they seem to be lacking imagination in development - as this reboot shows. I can just see the "creative" staff in conference - "I know - let's bring back Hart to Hart, but this time, they're a gay couple. It's retro, but it's also hip and now!"

Xenophobic is a perfectly fine word for FOX...

This is my boss, Jonathan Hart, a self-made millionaire. He’s quite a guy. This is Mrs. H, she’s gorgeous. She’s one lady who knows how to take care of herself. By the way, my name is Max. I take care of both of them, which ain’t easy. ‘Cause when they met, it was murder.

Guess this line won't be opening the new version. Gay or straight characters aside, without the on-screen chemistry of Robert Wagner and Stephanie Powers, I just don't know how this version ever succeeds. They were what made the original what it was.

I've been expecting someone to try this with Magnum P.I. down the road. Tom Selleck starring on Blue Bloods, has brought him back to the public eye and I could see them trying to re-fire Magnum as a gay private investigator with Selleck playing the part of Magnum's father. I don't know why, but I always imagined Paul Walker for the revived version of Magnum P.I. John Hillerman is up into his 80s now, so having Selleck basically fill the role of Higgins in a modern day Magnum seems rather feasible.
