Geoff Hart moves from sports to news

a bean counter at hearst probably said we're paying this guy how much for a few six minute sports casts? sports is not our focus. they can pay someone else much less to do sports and get more work out of the higher paid personality. jmo. kind of like radio.

True, except they weren't six minute sportscasts. More like two minutes. And, nobody gets sports from local TV anymore. They have already seen/heard it on ESPN TV and Radio, and online.

That's altogether true Mark, I still see a lot of people hitting the evening news to check current sports news. I wouldn't have thought so but I have noticed it lately.

WXII and WBTV both moved sports anchors to the main 6 PM anchor slot.

WFMY did it with a weatherman many years earlier. He's retired now.

I wouldn`t be surprised if Gordon Dill replaces Fred Cunningham later this year as host of the weekday Morning News on TV 7. Fred just appears too DAMN uptight!!! I bet that WSPA would like to get Dale Gilbert too!!!

Don't forget Darci Strickland who was the AM Meteorologist at WLTX 19 in Columbia before ascending to the anchor chair vacated by Trinell Moore.

I personally never really liked Dale. I don't know what it is, but he's not very appealing to me. I tend to prefer Alexandra Wilson (FOX Carolina) over him (that is to say, her or Dan Bickford, 7's current morning weatherman). Dale is the reason why, in my mind at least, WYFF rates F-minus in the morning.

I used to hate watching Dale years ago.... His "smirk" always got on my nerves-LOL!

Personally, I like the WHNS news the most. The anchors seem much more...comfortable to watch and personable.

WYFF is too stiff for my tastes. Especially in the evening.

a new generation has grown up in a twenty-four seven world where local news is not important. if it affects them it is texted to them. not many choosing broadcast as a career anymore.

:) +1 on that. The "Nightly News" doesn't help matters there either, as to me, Brian Williams is as stiff as they are. I am very much an ABC person.

And as for FOX Carolina, +1 on that also. I'm probably going to start looking @ their 6:30 news as a good local alternative if I can't find anything interesting on ABC.

You've probably hit on one of the main reasons right there as to why I don't like him when he's a weatherman. Now, at the Clemson home football games where he's the public address announcer, that's different, as I'm not looking at him, but only listening to him.

Young people take news for granted unles it affects them, then when it does it catches them blindsided in most cases even with text or what have you. I don't know how they would survive if we ever have a disaster that would takes out satellite and cell phone communications much less internet, take out electricty too and oh boy.
