George Gray ‘Recovering Well’ After Three Massive Heart Attacks

Here is a scare and the announcer is known for the Price is right.


George Gray, the announcer for “The Price Is Right,” is “recovering well” after suffering three massive heart attacks last week, his representative confirmed to Variety.

The 53-year-old was rushed to the hospital last week after having chest pains. After his first heart attack, doctors began to operate and put in a stent to restore blood flow from one of his arteries. However, the stent failed right after it was put in, and Gray had a second heart attack. A second stent was then inserted to further help his blood flow.

Gray was going for his first walk around the hospital following the procedure for the second stent, when that stent also failed. Once again, he was put on the operating table, and then he had his third massive heart attack. This one was of the left anterior descending artery, also known as the “widow maker” artery because it is almost always fatal. Luckily, doctors were already present and could save his life.

Ouch! I hope he recovers. That's not good, very scary.

Johnny Olson had a stroke at age 75, after 13 years of announcing Price. Rod Roddy had breast cancer and passed away at age 66, after he had the job for 17 years. Rich Fields was let go after seven years; he has had no major health problems to my knowledge. If we include the Bill Cullen version, Johnny Gilbert is still alive and announcing Jeopardy! at age 95, while Don Pardo lived to be 96. Burton Richardson, who announced the 1994 syndicated version and did occasional fill-ins during Barker's later years, is also doing well as far as I know.

Based on all of that, while three announcers have had health problems after the age of 50, it's nothing so out of the ordinary that I'd the job "cursed". That said, I do hope George Gray fully recovers and continues to have a fulfilling life.

Olson and Roddy are probably the most recognizable and popular announcers on TPIR.

I liked them a lot.

I couldn't imagine anyone replacing Olson, and for a while, no one lived up to his standard.

Finally, they hired Rod Roddy.

I haven't watched a lot in recent years.

Thats too bad hope he makes full recovery and returns to the announcer spot. Its weird because this happened when everyone is pretty much locked down with tpir not even taping unless they started again virtually but you think hed be pretty relaxed.
