Get the Shoehorn, George, Gotta Cram the Vols into the Zone

Football, men's basketball, Vol Calls, and Kesling updates land on 104.5 after amicably parting ways with WLAC. How are they going to get it all in? What a great position for them to be in.

WOW so Vol Calls are Mondays at 7 so that will knock MNF off the zone. Titans on Monday night? What about Basketball season? Where do the Preds fit in? Jeff Fisher show is Tuesdys...who wins?

It's going to be interesting to see how the pieces will fit together. If ever an FM station needed a sister AM station as a backup, it's the Zone. Since Citadel's in bankruptcy, I don't see them making a buy here in town, but they could do a great job of expanding their presence in town by seeking out an LMA. Can you trade some stations while in bankruptcy?

It's also going to be intertesting how the On-Air Talent handles it since Kevin Ingram is the sideline reporter for Vandy football and both George Plaster and Willie Daunic are both Vanderbilt alumni and make it NO SECRET that they are both BJG Vandy fans. Now all three will have to switch from Black and Gold to BIG ORANGE and WHITE!!!

And what happens with the Sounds game, especially if they make the PCL play-offs and their play-offs games are played at the same time as a UT game on Saturday and a Titans game on Sunday?

When the Zone has more than one live game to air at the same time, why do they not put one on 103 instead of farming one out to another station? At least if they did that both games would air on a citadel station. Just wondering?

Ingram MAY be able to continue as Vandy sideline reporter if management for either station doesn't object. But the scenario I'm wondering about is when a Titans preseason game is played on Saturday what happens if it overlaps the first regular season game of the Vols and a crucial season-ending game for the Sounds? Have we heard all of this story yet?

It's probably not in Citadel's best interest to pre-empt its country station with overflow sports programming. The Titans on KDF is (was) an exception for the fact that not only are the Titans and the NFL very popular, but scheduling NFL games on music stations have a minimal impact on the stations' music formats, being mostly scheduled on the weekend. As opposed to, say, a MTSU basketball game popping up on WKDF on a Tuesday night for no apparent reason, other than Citadel needs a place to air it. Why not "farm them out" to crosstown stations? This takes place, even in Market No. 1. WFAN has the radio rights to several sports franchises, yet when the Mets are playing on days the Nets and Devils are also scheduled to play games, you can mostly likely hear the latter two teams on two other stations not owned by CBS Radio.

I was told by the powers that be at KDF that Titans games had a great impact on their ratings. Wouldn't that send a strong message about what was being programmed outside of the games?

It does have great impact on their ratings, you can see it in the qumes. For that reason, it makes me wonder if there's something up their sleeves, or if they're just going to let KDF drop.

On the flip side, the Zone's been rising of late. Now that they're adding the Titans and UT, it seems the plan may be to let 104.5 rise to the top.

Okay, but this is not new. They've been playing country music and running Titans games for years. If "letting KDF drop" were part of the game plan (pardon the pun), I think a change would have been made long before. Maybe not before Larry Stone was made OM and given the chance to put his expertise into play with trying to marry the music with the sports, but certainly before they brought Bud Ford into the picture.

By the way, does anybody know why Bud was ousted? Or why Larry left his position? Or why DK is still there?

104.5 has a lousy signal. Can hardly hear them in Rutherford County.

again spew...always something positive and useful to add.
BTW...if you can't hear 104.5 in Rutherford County...it's your radio that's lousy. nothing wrong with that signal.

but... "you're the gourmet around here, Ed"

I live in Rutherford County and I have NO TROUBLE at all picking up the Zone's signal. It does sound like the station's signal has sounded a little more muffled than usual for the past week or so. Has anyone else noticed that?
