While this is not necessairly a radio posting, I thought it would be interesting for those who were not aware (As I wasn't until just a moment ago) that longtime WDAM-TV weathercaster/personality Jim Gibbon has retired as of early March. He had been a part of WDAM for nearly 43 years and in the broadcasting biz for six decades. He began with Laurel's WLAU radio.
I was surprised it only earned a short mention in the Hattiesburg American that day. It read:
Longtime WDAM-TV weatherman Jim Gibbon ended almost 43 years with the station and 60 years as a broadcaster on Friday.
Gibbon, who had been doing early morning weather forecasts in recent years, announced his retirement on the midday broadcast, station general manager Jim Cameron told viewers on the Friday night news program
Kinda short shrift for a longtime, well known personality.
