Giving some of our SA stations the finger....

I have XM now. The sound quality isn't the best but I now have a choice of music to tailor to my moods, something SA radio has failed to do in my life on many occasions.

Amen to that brother
Well I listened to both services, both I wouldnt want to pay for because of the sound quality. Sure theres static in FM but it sounds much better much more seperated...most of the time I listen to my mp3 player or internet radio.

well to me the montly payment is like buying a new cd every month at 12.99. The hard part was trying to find a spot in my house to place my antenna to get a good shot, and the occasional lost signal under overpasses and at the car wash, which is when I usually flip back to teresterial radio to check out the college stations

Keep in mind that you're contributing to the decline of the industry when you make that choice. Growing acceptance of satellite radio makes it easier for suits at corporate radio HQs to justify canning the local talent and replacing them with voice-trackers, syndicated formats, and automation."Why should we pay those local announcers? People there don't care about local programming." ::)If you hate what's on the air here now, you're only making it worse by turning it off completely.

I agree I try to support local radio as much as I can.

How can you support "local" radio when it's not necesiarly local anymore? Unless you are talking about our local college and public stations. Those which I support and still tune into.

If you want local personalities, local news and local decisions about music on the commercial stations, then it behooves you to stick with them. The trend on all of those things is already downward, and it can justifiably be accelerated downward when listeners tune out. Maybe we'd all be better off if cookie cutter pablum like "Delilah" was on every station? ;)

One of the things that really got me about XM or Sirius was the portability and Sound quality. If I could of took either of them services where ever I went then I might of gone that route. I know they have them portable units out now, but thats still really not portable enough for me. I just didnt want to half to bring along a lot of stuff in my Truck just for radio.

Delilah on every station?????? Where do I sign???

Local radio support is all well and good, but if they don't satisfy the listener, then they deserve to be left for a satellite, ipod or whatever else satisfies. Radio is a free market and part of a bigger entertainment market, so too bad."Survival of the fittest" or "Adapt or die!"
