As Glenn Ordway returns to terrestrial radio reminded of an "incident" Glenn had with the late great Dean of Talk Radio, Jerry Williams.
In the winter of 1982 Jerry Williams had a well known nutritionist, Carleton Fredericks, on his daily WRKO talk show. In the pre-interview Fredericks was asked what he wanted to talk about. He mentioned that some breakthroughs had been made with stroke patients when they were administered a vitamin derivative call ' oxycosinol'. This was right after Tony Conigliaro had suffered a stroke on the way to Logan Airport. Jerry at his producer's suggestion asked him to ask Fredericks if this would help Tony C. Fredericks wasn't sure since it had been several weeks since he had the stroke but it might be worth the effort.
At the end of that day's program the producer received a call from a close friend of Tony Conigliaro's father. Tony C's father had been listening to the program that day and wanted to contact Carleton Fredericks. The producer gave the intermediary Fredericks ' phone number and moved on.
Cut to a few days after Mother's Day of 1982. A news item came over the wires that Tony C who was in a rehab hospital sat up for the first time and asked for his mother. Through a series of calls it was determined that Tony C was administered a routine of the vitamin derivative oxycosinol. So, Jerry went on the air and discussed the improvement in Conigliaro's situation.
Apparently, Glenn Ordway was in the building and was "annoyed" one of Jerry's favorite words that Jerry Williams was talking about it and somehow taking some credit.
When the show was over Ordway tracked down Williams at his desk and confronted him. Ordway's words were something like, " Who are you going to bring back next, Babe Ruth? "
That's all Jerry needed to hear. You could say anything to Jerry but look out if you attacked his credibility. Next thing you heard was the office door slamming shut and chairs being thrown at each other and every expletive not deleted being shouted by Ordway and Williams. Believe the PD finally had to intervene to separate the two. Don't think they stayed angry for long but for a while it sounded like Killer Kowalski going after some other wrestler.
Moral of the story: Glenn Ordway apparently doesn't like it when you attempt to bring back the dead - or the nearly dead. Funny, that could describe Orway's career - resurrected from the dead or nearly dead.
