Glenn Ordway's salary cut in half thanks to lower ratings

Well yes to be honest the competition was announced some weeks in advance...and EEI could have scooped them by going FM then. You're right they could have known that CBS was ready to go sports on
FM. There was actually speculation for awhile--some thought WZLX would have gone all sports.

Red Sox and WEEI-FM: Losing In Stereo (or mono broadcast on a stereo signal)
 
How could they do this to the Big-O I mean we're talking about the Big-O I'm sure jim baker is enjoying this wherever he is.
 
Guessing that because d&c's ratings have remained consistent Entercom would pause to trigger such a cut. T&R have dominated them recently, but there really hasn't been any decline in listeners for d&c (I think).
Messing with Ordway is much easier (not much of a leg to stand on).
 
Was it REALLY a blunder by Ordway's agent or was it arrogance by both the agent & Ordway that they would never be in position to have the clause imposed on him?
Remember how arrogant he was about 1510 when they had Sporting News radio & their local shows with the Globe writers? He would mock them for their phrase "Raising the bar".
Maybe he had the same view of 98.5 and that they were the mighty WEEI & he could agree to the clause but in his mind what were the odds of it being imposed.
Isn't as far fetched as we might think.

My own take:
--Ent paid big for Red Sox (one reason for move to FM, make best of it--higher ratings, more money..
since the signal is better now with FM added here locally)

--Big contract for someone who performed well but now there's competition. No longer only game in town.

--When ratings dipped they took adv. of clause in contract to save $$

--Ent. was making money with WEEI, WAAF (incl WKAF to better bring signal into Boston), Mike 93.7,
and WRKO. Now subtract Mike from the revenue stream--low cost, made some money. They had to
kill off Mike to help WEEI...a station that SHOULD have gone FM years ago. They SHOULD have scooped
CBS by doing their own FM move BEFORE 98.5 debuted. "WEEI: The First FM Sports Talk Station In Boston!" But no.

--PPM ratings hurting the likes of talkers (Fin & Fein, Howie etc). Money lost.

Something had to give
