GM Slashes XM Radio Prices - bad news for in-dash XM Radio

HEY SAY NO, I WENT TO BEST BUY I TRIED TO HEAR YOUR LITTLE XM RADIO, IT SAID NO SIGNAL, I TRIED TO HEAR SIRIUS ALSO, NO SIGNAL, SO DUDE WHAT IS YOUR DEAL?

I have an XM Pioneer Inno receiver, and it works well indoors in the larger cities that have terrestrial repeaters. I just checked it at a meeting room deep inside a LAs Vegas hotel, and it has a signal and all channels are accessable. The problem is the combined cost of the radio ($300 plus $160 a year fee).

THAT IS WHAT TURNED ME AWAY FROM XM, WHY WOULD I PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT I CAN GET FOR FREE? I EVEN HEARD THE CUSTUMER SUPPORT CAN BE BRUTAL.

I wouldn't want an XM, or Sirius subscription any more than an HD Radio - I just want HD Radio to fail (which it seems to be doing on its own), and Satellite Radio is part of the killer app...

With either XM or Sirius you get well over 100 more channels, and can listen outside the HD stations primary coverage area; such as between cities, in the suburbs, or even way out in the country.

HEY SAY NO, HAVE YOU EVER EVEN HEARD HD RADIO YET? WHY DO YOU KEEP BASHING IT IF YOU HAVE NOT HEARD IT? I HEARD IT A WHILE BACK, IT KICKS ASS! I LOVE THE HD-2 CHANNELS, YOU CAN NOT TALK ME OUT OF BUYING ONE, REMEMBER I WILL ALWAYS WIN. WHY DONT YOU AND YOUR OTHER 2 "BUDDIES" GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY.

The only thing you seem to be forgeting is that you are "ONLY" one person that seems to be in love with this HD Radio
thing! It's going to take a hell of a lot more people to be in love with HD Radio than you to make it even remotely successfull! HD radio is not going anywhere soon!

Which is fine. That's not anything that would come to a surprise to me or most other HD Radio supporters. In fact, I've been saying that for a while now.

You're right - HD Radio ISN'T going anywhere for a while!

You're right - HD Radio ISN'T going anywhere for a while!
So why not wait about 20 years, see how HD shapes out, save your money, and keep right on enjoying tens of thousands of really totally free (no expensive HD radio needed) internet stations, many with super-higher-then-HD Radio quality, using the same AAC Plus codec HD Radio uses, but much higher bitrate and quality?
Most AOL features including AOL Radio and some XM stations are totally free with your present high-speed internet connection. Most HD radio stations have their HD Radio streams, including HD2, and HD3, available on the net for free, just check the station's website.
By then, HD Radio will just be an ancient, bad nightmare.
For better then HD Radio, Super HD stations:
The latest version of Winamp or the Windows Media plugin to use the same codec HD Radio uses, (AAC+) as well as a few AAC Plus stations are listed here.

Here is a listing of many more higher quality Super HD stations:

That's right! Spend $40 a month for high-speed internet just so that you can tie up a computer to stream audio!

Or, wait until HD radio comes down in price and make a one-time investement in a radio that uses use the same codec Streaming Radio uses, (AAC+) without tying up your computer! Don't forget computer speakers...you'll need to buy high-quality speakers to put in the one room where your computer is in order to hear that "super-quality" streams. Oh, and forget about surfing with that "super-quality" stream - it uses a good chunk of your bandwidth.

Ang do a google search of codec quality, and how most people can't tell the difference between and HD Radio bitrate and a super-high bitrate. Not only because of the way codecs work, but also because the quality of soundcards, etc.

See...they don't like to give you the WHOLE story...

Hell, I have only dialup and I can stream audio and do other things, at the same time. I play AOL Radio all the time, while bashing HD Radio ! With high-sped cable, your argument doesn't hold water ! How many years has the HD Radio Cartel been talking about lowering the prices of HD Radios - oh, maybe two ! Yea, like someone is going to spend $300 on a lousy AM/FM radio ! :D The I-Sonic is $599 - oh boy ! The Receptor HD is $299 - oh, boy ! Prices will need to be well below $100, near analog AM/FM radio, to even have a prayer - and that will never happen ! High-quality speakers - I have two JBL Pro speakers, that came with my Compaq eight years ago, and they sound great - oh yea, like people really give a darn enough to get the latest-and greatest speakers. People can't tell the difference between analog FM and IBOC FM ! People care much more about CONTENT, but pro-IBOC'ers can't see that, or don't want to admit it !

Wow, more misinformation! Do you just make this stuff up? If you're on dialup, you are listeneing to a lower bitrate stream than HD.

Next, the HD "Cartel" doesn't set prices for the radio, the manufacturer does. Just like the first CD players were $1500, the first HD Radios will be expensive. Competition and more production will mean lower prices.

As for content...people who are switching are saying exactly that! They enjoy the HD2 content. Stations you can't find anywhere else.

By the way SUPERCASTER says it's about the sound quality, you say people don't care. Which is it?

By the way, if you're going to steal SUPERCASTERS phrase "cartel" I urge you to prove it. He can't.

And guys, can you tell me how I can receive these Internet boradcasters while I'm driving? Once I leave my driveway with my laptop and speakers sitting in the back seat, I lose the station? I don't want to wait too long before I do a permanent install because I have to get to work on Monday and I need a radio in my car to hear the traffic reports and news.

What benefit does HD Radio add to traffic reports and news??????
You get them anyway, better, cheaper, and faster over your existing analog car radio!

First of all, HD2/3 will carry EAS. Great for local emergencies. Plus all you have to do is go to the analog channel with a simple twist of the tuning knob to get all of that faster, cheaper, information.

Plus *gasp* there is no reason that and HD 2/3 couldn't carry news or traffic. Unlike ANY of your options, the HD stations are local.

Your "Cartel's" house of cards is quickly falling.

Where? The only person who uses the phrase "Cartel" is you and SayLies. Saying it's true doesn't make it so. On top of all your other misleading posts, I can't see any sane person believing your point. Plus, we all proved you were using the name "Cartel" incorrectly. So, no, you didn't prove anything.

The better bitrate proves nothing. You DX. The audio quality is pretty poor there. The AM band that you are fighting to save from invisible evil? MUCH worse audio quality than HD. There have been several articles written about the low bitrate MP3's that people load on their iPods and such. Most people don't care much about audio quality, they care about content (in fact, you said so yourself!).

Nice try.

Where have you been over the last several years? Personally, I have a Verizon Wireless phone and Pocket-PC combo with unlimited data by way of an EV-DO wireless broadband connection. I tune in my desired Internet radio stream directly from a website or through a variety of tuner directories. I plug the output of the Pocket-PC into a cassette adapter which is already pluged into my auto's stereo system. This also works quite well with a Palm Treo.

Yes, but that isn't technically allowed with the EVDO card, and that subjects you to disconnection:

Well Mr. Caster.... I will tell you. RIGHT NOW HD radio is broadcasting traffic information that can be overlaid onto a Garmin (and a few others) GPS units for real time traffic and conjestion mapped right onto a GPS unit. It is working RIGHT NOW. DOH!

The bottom line is that you and the other bozo are not educated in HD. I suggest you read, and educate yourself before you make a greater fool of yourself.

Next question......?????? (I think I used the same number of question marks as you) Why cant you just let people have a choice if they want HD Radio or not? Or are you into making sure that people dont have options just because YOU do think they should. Get over yourself!
