Did another hike last Saturday. This time, up to State Route 410 to a trailhead right off the highway for Goat Peak, a 6,400-ft. summit, 13 miles east of Chinook Pass. This was a barnburner of a hike, starting off steep and getting steeper with little breaks. Elevation gain of 3,200 feet from the highway! There were multiple blowdowns in the first mile, but the views paid off in the end. Rainier, Adams, Goat Rocks, Mt. Daniel, Mt. Stuart and the Enchantments, and Mt. Aix all seen. Bumping Lake could be seen at the summit. The 410 hikes are the only trails accessible "due west" from Yakima, because of the 22,000 acre Retreat Fire near Rimrock that has closed US-12 for several days now. This hike was done a few days before the fire.
FM scan was much like any other location in the Cascades. Lots of spots where one direction of signals would show up, followed by another. The summit scan was actually a bit disappointing due to very strong (40db+) HD hash on a lot of channels from Seattle...the scan was more interesting 500-1000 feet down from the summit. Logbook counts as it's Yakima County. And SURPRISINGLY little from Portland! Away we go....using the TEF6686:
