Goldberg to give up Air America CEO role

What's going on here

Very interesting.

The AP story says Goldberg remains as Vice Chairman, assigned to strengthening AAR's "outreach efforts to the progressive community." According to Radio Equalizer (pass the salt shaker, please) Goldberg will get $400,000 per year, $400,000 in deferred compensation and $100,000 for T&E expenses. Not exactly a "Golden Parachute" but not bad. Goldberg is former CEO of Arista records.

Iterim CEO is Jim Wiggett, president of the Jackson Hole Group, a management consulting firm. See Bio. His previous experience is primarilly Human Resources in retail and serivce businesses. Reportedly, part of his job will be to find a permanent successor.

Radio Equalizer contends there have been "conflicts" between Goldberg and other AAR execs, which led to Goldberg's exit. The fact that they have brought in management consultants whose strong suit is H-R may lend some credence to Equalizer's assertions.

If this puts AAR management on a more business-like basis, this may be good news. Curious that, once again, they don't appear to look to people with radio experience for the front office.

Stay tuned.

But in a long line of AAR network executive officers, not one single radio mangement or network veteran. Doesn't that strike anyone else as the reason AAR hasn't been an across-the-board success?

Well, that, and general putzing around.

Assuming any of it is accurate and I'll bet a shiny dime there isn't a single named source in any of his "reports," as usual.

He would report "conflicts" at AAR is Garofalo asked for a chef's salad and got a Ceasar's salad instead. More idle speculation, and I'm sure this will be followed up by yet another appearance on O'Reilly to do the monthly declaration of AAR's imminent demise. I wonder if Fox News viewers think they are watching a repeat. After all, they've declared the death of AAR more times than Chevy Chase did for Generallissimo Francisco Franco on SNL.
