Good Bye And Thank You To "The 10 O'Clock News On WLVI-Hello to Schlock News 7

I almost expected a Mary Richards aka Mary Tyler Moore Show ending to the 10 O'Clock News on Channel 56 WLVI with our own Mary Richards - Karen Marinella.

Expected to see them all in a sort of Conga line, hand in hand walking out of the news set and then have Karen come back in an turn off the lights.

Wish them all well and future success to some very talented broadcasters and production people at LVI.

Now, all we have to look forward to is more schlock- if it bleeds it leads - tabloid news from Channel 7. Mr, Ansin has proven time and time again that money cannot by class only property on his personal Monopoly board. My advice to him is to ... ' go directly to jail and....' Well, you know the rest of the story.

Good night and good luck to the great staff and talent at THE Ten O'Clock News.

Sunbeam Changes 56.

So, anyway, as I predicted, Sunbeam changed the name of the station to CW56 (Also calling New England CW), and indeed went to a new website. The address apears to be "CW56" now instead of whatever it was previously (you can still get there by typing WLVI.com).

I believe an "I told you so" is in order... (JK ;-)
Seriously though, Sunbeam wasted no time in making changes at Midnight, as one would expect. I hope the new era is every bit as good as the last. You know what they say about broadcasting, the only thing constant is change...

Another thing is also constant. You can be sure that ed ansin will always deliver schlock television. He has gone to the bank on that many times. Sad, that Emerson College took his blood money. Doesn't do much for the prestige of Emerson - if it ever had any - to have a building named after that purveyor of trash news and trash TV.

Although I've recently watched NECN most for news at 10 PM, I have watched WLVI for years and am very sorry to see them go. Mike Wankum is one of the best meteorologists I've ever seen on TV.

I watched the entire newscast last night and was a little surprised by Jack Hyne's bitter commentary--not because he wasn't right but because he had the balls to say it on TV.

As far as changing "Boston's CW" to "CW56", that's a good move. Not mentioning the channel number made it too generic.

I sent an e-mail to the news staff yesterday from the web page offering my best wishes to all of them and stating I have no desire to watch a WHDH newscast at 10 PM.

Re: Good Bye And Thank You To "The 10 O'Clock News On WLVI-Hello to Schlock News 7

If you read The Boston Globe story in today's paper on Schlock Channel 7's news which will take the place of THE Ten O'clock News you will read that 7 and that purveyor of all that is tabloid, ed ansin, will run an high number of crime stories on that news even if they are not local crime stories to fill the news block.

Ed Ansin proves every day and in every day that money cannot by class. He is the "organized" news thug of locally owned television stations. Wonder if he is "connected" as rumors have it?

Re: Good Bye And Thank You To "The 10 O'Clock News On WLVI-Hello to Schlock News 7

nice touch on the web site with the WSVN link. I've always wanted a hot link to a Miami TV station at my fingertips.

pretty sad

There's not only the WSVN Miami link at the bottom, but the "news" heading near the top of the page, with the "local", "national", "world", etc., links on it says WSVN too. The bottom link is not an error but the top one is.

Have any of you actually seen a WSVN newscast? I've seen them and they are an order of magnitude worse than WHDH's. It does the large number of elderly people in the Miami area a disservice to portray their world as overrun by savage criminals and multitudes of car accidents.

I respectfully disagree. I like channel 7's "News is the Star" philosphy, and, if you saw how TV News production looked in the market where I live, you would have a different perspective.

Or maybe you wouldn't, I don't know. As for your Emerson College comment, ok whatever dude...

Paul, Miami/Dade IS overrun by savage criminals and multitudes of car accidents!!

They're not making that stuff up and it's probably better to portray Miami as the third-world country that it is - rather than as some tropical paradise. Let's not sugarcoat the truth here...South Florida has A LOT of crime stories to report on. Besides, WSVN's newscasts skew young and not old! It's WPB that's the really old market - Miami/FtL is more of a mixed bag.

Yes, I've watched a WSVN newscast and it's very similar to what you see on WHDH (same set even). The difference is that WSVN has more hours of news programming during the day thanks to their FOX affiliation. I wouldn't say it's "worse", there's just more of it. Yeah, both are tabloid-ish...but both also bring in the viewers.

Remember P.T. Barnum's famous quote: "no one ever went broke by underestimating the intellect of the American public." How true it is and now we have an entire entertainment industry dedicated to proving it, each and every day.

On a different note...

My respect goes out to the former staffers of WLVI's news department for showing the utmost in professionalism and class to the (very) bitter end. That's not easy to do and i truly hope that these folks find a new station to call home - and soon.

Actually, that quote is from H.L. Menchen but it still holds true no matter who said it.
Still, why don't they just read off the daily police blotter. The could save thousands of dollars in producers and assignment desk.

I stand corrected and must admit my error! But, I still see a place for crime reporting in the local news - people need to know what's going on around them.

I think WHDH TV HAS THE BEST NEWSCAST IN AMERICA!!!!!
It is fun to watch and gets ratings. In my opinion, that's what it is all about.
That is THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS.

However, CW56's 10pm newscast and 7's 11pm newscast are two different animals. 7News at 11 is somewhat watchable but their news at 10 on CW56 is absolutely vile piece of TV.

Garrett says: >>I think WHDH TV HAS THE BEST NEWSCAST IN AMERICA!!!!! <<

That's like saying that The New York Post is "quality journalism at its' best". Oh, well.......... c'est la vie. "To each his own". I couldn't handle more than 3 minutes worth of that Red Bull charged newscast on Channel 56. I turned it off and have no plans to return. So, I'll use my option to go somewhere else for news, and not another version of "Entertainment Tonight".

Re: Good Bye And Thank You To "The 10 O'Clock News On WLVI-Hello to Schlock News 7

Oops, I should have preferenced my comment with "I think" or "IMO."
It is indeed a matter of perspective.

Now what's so bad about the New York Post?
(LOL).

But it's supposed to be a "news" program, not entertainment. It's the confusion of the two that disgusts me. And the ratings of a particular show, news or not, makes no difference to me when I'm watching.

But no matter. There are lots of channels and there are places to get news other than WLVI. It's too bad a choice has been removed.

Amen!
At least Ed Ansin never disappoints you. He promises you trash and he gives you trash. [EDIT]
Fade out to the tune of "Ben...." ;)

Fade to "Ben" makes no sense unless you understand that trash becomes the breading place for vermin - otherwise known as rodents . ie BEN

Let me guess, you work for WHDH and are paid to say this for our benefit?
