I was listening to Mad Rock 102.5 KMAD out of Sherman this morning and noticed another station playing country that was trying to come in over it. It turned out to be KKYR out of Texarkana. So I decided to scan around and see what else I could get, and here are some stations I managed to pull in: (I am just a few miles east of Farmersville on the Hunt/Collin county line)

4:17 am - 106.1 Best Country 106 KKBI Broken Bow, OK/Paris,TX
92.5 ... Managed to null out KZPS and got KOMA Oklahoma City in like a local!
101.1 KRMD, Texarkana
101.9 KBUS, Paris
103.7 Unknown religious station under KVIL
104.1 KMGL Magic 104 Oklahoma City
105.1 Unknown Country station
105.7 Country, possibly KYKX Tyler
106.3 KYGL Eagle 106.3 Texarkana
106.5 possibly Sunny 106.5 KOOI Tyler
107.1 unknown Oldies/classic hits playing ELO around 4:40 am
107.3 Hot 107.3 Jamz KISX Tyler
107.7 KRXO Oklahoma City
Mix 93.1 Tyler
95.1 unknown religious
95.5 Country, playing After Midnite with Blair Garner
96.1 96x Tyler with what sounded like KXY Oklahoma City under it
98.9 KYIS Oklahoma City

Pretty good tropo conditions this early morning! Stations like 93.1, 105.7 and 106.5 out of Tyler are usually pretty good catches out here, but all the others listed above were coming in a lot stronger than usual. It was still going on as of about 5:20, so for all you DX'ers out there. have fun!

While driving through Allen this morning, I was able to pick up an NPR station on 88.9 that was 3 seconds ahead of KERA.

95.5 is most likely a station out of Paris, Tx KITX (K 95.5)
88.9 KETR is a 100kW FM radio station featuring news, sports, music and talk for Northeast Texas, operated by Texas A&M University-Commerce.

I live in Durant now and listen to KMAD all the time. I wasnt picking up anything else this morning. Maybe it was just where you were at that time.

I get KETR here full time in Mesquite. Been listening on and off since Frieda Ross (Findley) was co hosting the morning show there. Also carried BBC World News Longer than KERA did late night.

I heard KVIL, KPLX and KJKK into Ardmore late this morning as I was heading to OKC.

One time I heard KKHH (Hot 95.7-Houston) in Plano.

Reception of local stations in East Texas was nuts. Maybe it was fun for those who like to DX (not that there is anything wrong with that) but for someone who is running a local station, it is a nightmare when it is a problem receiving your own signal a couple of miles away from the studio. I am not a fan of tropo, which seems to be getting more intense.

I'm betting your Tyler translator went nuts, too....

I don't know that it's getting more intense, there are just a lot more stations out there now.
