Details coming, but it looks like we'll grace the airwaves of KMNY-1360 (the old KXOL) on Sunday nights again!! Possibly starting December 30.

No updates on the website just yet, but if you have no idea what I'm talking about here, this will explain it: www.thehificlub.net

Looking forward to hearing The HiFi Club! But please tell'em (at KMNY) their audio stream is distorted. It's streaming at 128k, but sounds overdriven. I just tried it because I can barely receive 1360 at night.

Thanks very much! I know they've tweaked the stream several times over the last few months, but you're lucky, I can't even get the stream to pull up! Are you using Windows Media Player? Mine defaults to Winamp, which may be the problem...but I can't seem to get the settings to "stick" when I change preferences on either player...so .wma files open with Winamp anyway. Any ideas on that?

I will let them know on the distortion. Thanks for the heads-up!

What's the URL for KMNY's stream?

Yes, using WMP. No I am not sure how you would make it open with WMP if you've tried setting in preferences. Have to think about that one. Mine defaults to WMP.

Try this: open Windows Media Player, go to tools, options, file types, and check MP3 audio is enabled for WMP as the default player. Can't help with Winamp don't have a newer version on a computer to look at.

Today KMNY stream won't play for me either. Says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." It worked 12 hours ago and other times I tried it. Must be "them". The 1320 Houston stream plays fine.

Maybe you were having the same problem as there seems to be now...

This is the URL for their 1320 steam that does work

I'm having the same problem Mike is. It keeps defaulting to Winamp and nothing can be heard. Here's another way to get Windows Media Player to play the stream. Go to tools/file/open URL and paste this into the pop up box that opens: http://69.44.239.141/dallas/dallas2.asx

I'm listening to it right now and the audio quality is fantastic.

Yep working for me now too. I had tried that same IP address earlier and it didn't work. Have you heard them play any music? They were playing Christmas music the other night and it sounded distorted. It actually sounds a little overdriven to me now on some commercials playing.

I'm going to take a wild guess here.

I bet when they are playing any pre-recorded content, such as music and commercials, they encoded them at a really low MP3 rate. Then for the stream, the audio obviously gets encoded again. This can lead to, among other things, distortion. If this is indeed the case, there is no excuse for it. Hard drive space is extremely inexpensive, and they should be using .wav files.

Thanks for all the suggestions and help...I tried all the config's suggested and Robert's did the trick. I've posted the links and those helpful hints on the Hi-Fi homepage in case others have the same problem. I'll do a few more tests before launch date.

Congratulations, Mike! Sounds like this will be really cool and I'm glad you found a home for the show.
