Gordy Price, formerly of WIMT, passes at 60

A few other notes about Gordy from people who knew him:

Gordy’s classic delivery and unique style made him one of the most unique radio personalities in the area. His highlights include working at WING in the early 70’s, then made his mark by hosting a Top 40 program on WMVR in Sidney in the early 80’s. His show was unique in that he was the only DJ playing Top 40 music between the end of WDJX and the start of WGTZ. A front page article from the early 80’s in Sidney proclaimed Gordy, “King of the teens” as every teenager from Troy to Celina listened to Gordy. WMVR even showed up with ratings in the Dayton Arbitron during the evening shift, a amazing feat for the time considering WMVR’s signal barely reached Troy. A popular feature called “Love lines” mirrored the boogie check bit (of WLS fame) where he would air dozens of quick calls in a 3 minute block. After Sidney, Gordy worked at WTOO in Bellefontaine where WTOO also shifted from a Country/AC hybrid to Top 40 has Hit Radio 98. In 1998, Gordy took the afternoon position at WIMT T-102 in Lima where he continued for 18 years.

Yes, it's true...Gordy battled various demons in his personal life. However, his impact on radio, especially in the Northern Miami Valley is undeniable. He loved what he did, it came through the speakers, and he will be missed.

I am putting together a tribute to Gordy, which has been cleared to air on ALL Lima radio stations (both Maverick and Clear Channel) at 3pm one day this week. I am putting out a call to anybody who has audio of Gordy. Please send it to me and we will seam it together. Also, anybody who has a 30 second story regarding your most memorable Gordy moment, record it and mp3 to me, [email protected]. Of course this is very time sensitive, so I need stuff today.

When did the Clear Channel Lima downsizing took place that eliminated Gordy's job at T-102?

Was Gordy working ANYWHERE before he passed away?

Though I am sort of late on the subject of this, I just wanted to post and say that the tribute that aired a few weeks back (as well as the extended version that is available on the WCIT website) was very well put together. It was fun to listen to all of those voices that I haven't heard in...well, quite a while...probably since I left Clear Channel back in February of 2006 (excluding a select few). I just wish it would have been for a different purpose, you know?

Great job Phil. Nice work!

The WCIT website tribute to Gordy was by far much better than the lip service given on the T-102 website which consisted of nothing more than a link to the Lima News obit.

Once again CC flaunts its corporate arrogance towards the ones who truly made radio broadcasting a medium for allowing a rapport between DJ and listener.....and is sadly fading away.

Rest in peace Gordy..I pray you're in a much better place now by God's mercy.

Had a beer with Gordy a few months back in Celina....he was out of the biz.  Life seemed harsh towards the end..May
God rest his soul.  RIP Brother.

Thanks Hoot!

Welcome to the boards. Wondered if Gordy had any kind of job off the air to pay his bills...or if his health no longer permitted him to work. Was at his gravesite the day after his funeral...I plum near cried. Gordy was one of the good ones. I pray he's up there by God's grace along with John Hall,Gene "By Golly" Barry,Lou Emm and the others.
