Got A Smart Phone? New Way to Listen to RADIO

I've got an Android phone. Under Marketplace, FREE Apps, I found TUNE IN. The App works fantastic. It gives you the chance to sample and save as a PRESET the radio stations that you like. I have about a dozen favorites. Talk & Music from various cities and states. You can search by STATE, CITY or FORMAT genre. I looked up several of the stations from where I used to live or traveled to and found most of them there. If I remember right, it is rated 5 stars. There is another App, I Heart Radio, which is also FREE. The problem with this one is the stations cut in and out. It is rated only 3 stars. Perhaps they will get the bugs fixed eventually.

Band news ken.

I heart radio is a Clear Channel product. I believe it was first ported to iPhone and then to Blackberry. It seemed to work great on both. But it has had issues since ported to Andriod about a year ago.

I had it on the G1 and then the myTouch slide. Constantly freezing up! Dumped it. I use Yahoo! Music for the CBS stations. I also have Xilla Live (formerly Droid live) and Streamfurious. They are great for mp3/.pls filed sites. And are great for any Shoutcast stations. Win Amp also has a Droid version as well. But I have not tried it yet. Will once I get my Internet station setup and use the remote feature.

Streamfurious is easy to set up. Go to the stations web site and launch their stream. App picks it up and automatically adds to your list. You can search for stations on Xilla and add manually.

Hope this help!

BGH, I'd echo the recommendation of TuneIn on Android, as far as finding over-air stations.

It has nearly every non-CC station, even in formats that other Android streaming audio apps don't have...and it's FREE. It uses the RadioTime database.

I originally got the RadioTime app, which is actually still available ($2ish), but there's no need when TuneIn is the same app and free. It is supposedly ad supported, but I haven't seen any ads in the most recent version...which has improved performance over RadioTime.

Re: iHeartRadio - supposedly, they are about to release a new, much better Android version, and I guess the new version will also have the missing stations that are in iPhone/Blackberry.

I love Tune In! It must be the web feed, because it's on a 2 min delay and the spots are different than air. Still, I love the fact that I can hear a break right after I've done it AND record it. Talk about immediate feedback. Tells me if something worked or not.

TuneIn is still great.

CC finally released the new Android version of iHeartRadio, and it is MUCH better. It has all the stations that were missing, and the performance is also much better.
