Great SNL with Martin Short and Paul McCartney 12/12/2012

Speaking of Bill Hader, he's become the new Jimmy Fallon: laughing through his skits.

But that makes it funnier. And I think the difference is that Fallon was never really serious with his sketch acting and couldn't keep a straight face and didn't really try.

Seems Hader's castmates (and, in last week's instance, the host) intentionally try to make Hader laugh. I'm willing to bet there was a lot of adlibbing on Martin Short's part in that 'Kate Middleton's obstetrician' sketch to both make him laugh as well as the audience. Short went a bit over the top in that sketch.

And Kenan Thompson always went a trifle over the top in the McIntosh sketches where plays a convict trying to scare delinquents played by Hader (who always laughed), Andy Samberg, and Bobby Moynihan (and the police officer played by Jason). We haven't seen that sketch in a while (which is fine).

Great point about Hader. Like it or not, viewers love it when the main actors crack-up. This is one of the last vestiges of live tv, and I really like SNL letting these main shows indeed live. Nice job, NBC.

I agree! I love it when the actor's laugh. One of my favorite sketches is the first Debbie Downer with Lindsey Lohan (May 2004). Almost everyone was laughing.

The Friday before last, NBC was scheduled to repeat the Blake Shelton special, but in the wake of the Newtown shootings, substituted the Bublé special. (and last night, they repeated both)

Blake Shelton was on last night. I had heard people say so many good things about the show. And they were right. Even the music was good. Okay, some of the comedy was overdone.

This episode is being repeated by NBC tonight at 11:30. I'll watch it again. It'll certainly a lot better than the last couple of episodes.

Jackson managed to swear twice, live on the air, near the end of the sketch, using both the F word and the BS word. Didn't seem to be any attempt to bleep it out so all you viewers in other time zones can keep your ears out for that.

SNL gets a long winter break. They are off until next year when they return live on January 19th with Jennifer Laurence and musical guest Luminere.

No surprise but they did manage to edit the part where Samuel Jackson swore at the end of the Whats Up with That sketch. If you had never seen the first airing, you'd probably wonder what Kenan Thompson's "Come on Sam, that costs money" comment meant. ;D

Actually, in context, it worked just fine. The whole skit fell into the "so bad, it's good" category.
