Great songs no longer heard on Oldies radio

Ho ho.

Three songs always make the top of the list of most hated.

(In no particular order)

Honey-Bobby Goldsbore
MacArthur Park-Richard Harris
Feelings-Morris Albert

Wow! Here's a thread that could go on forever. I think that Radio-Info should create a new board..........Songs We'd Like To Hear On Commercial Radio But Never Do.

I actually heard that the other night on WIFE-FM 100.3 from Connersville, Indiana. They are a country station that does a Saturday night oldies show that would play a lot of the songs mentioned here in this thread.

Supposedly that verse (as well as the entire song, I would guess) was written by Jimmy Webb as a metaphor for dying love. Or something like that. ;-)

I had the opportunity to interview Jimmy Webb, who wrote "MacArthur Park", about 15 years ago, and I asked him that very same question. (The lyric, by the way, is "someone left the cake out in the rain" ... the lyric is not asked as a question.)

His answer was: "Anything you want it to, man. Anything you want."<P ID="signature">______________

It's in rotation on WJIB 740 AM Cambridge MA, an adult standards station.

Where it can be heard in glorious AM Stereo (if you have such a receiver)!

gr8oldies' sarcasm, though, brought thoughts about one of the greatest entertainers the music industry has seen. I'm a big Elvis fan, but, I'm not sure that Glenn Miller wasn't as/more popular than Elvis was in his prime. It's a shame his plane went missing over the English Channel during WWII.

Hey, I'm 30, and most of my favorite music is from before 1971! Though I'd like to know where there's an oldies station where they don't play "Dawn" or "Rag Doll" to death....They DO need to play "C'mon Marianne" sometimes though!
 
I consider Glenn Miller to have been #2. Benny Goodman was The King Of Swing.

Thanks for listening & the kinds words....we try...& keep adding more.
Last month we added another 60 or so titles to the thousands already in rotation...
(most of the new ones added were from the 50's).
It's an on-going process.

BTW...you made me check...we do play "Absolutely Right."
You can call Michael or Karen & request # 551-14 & say "Hi" too!

There's a reason we kinda sound like the former WCBS-FM.
