Great songs that were Top 40 hits that you never hear on the radio

I wonder if sometime soon there will ever be a radio format where the songs you
are reminicing about in addition to all those other "forgotten" favorites will come
together on one station?, It can be done!
What i would do is not repeat the same song in a 24-hour period, this would be
a radio listeners dream without any "corporate" control!

Does anyone remember the song Lovelight? or Love Light? It was an R&B hit from 1983, and I only ever saw it on Friday Night Videos, and heard it once on a local urban station, WUFO in Depew, NY. Does anyone know who did this, because I cannot find it ANYWHERE!

Not meant to be a shameless plug, but you might just want to listen to my stream - called Web Mix (Classics of the 70s 80s and 90s). It is a classic CHR format with all of those forgotten songs. Here is the link, but you MUST have Winamp v5 or higher.

I've heard all these on standards radio. Eventually I need to go through and list all the ones I have heard there that are on this thread.

Why? It's a good song and one that is not played anymore. It went all the way to #3 on the Billboard Top 40 charts in 1982 so CLEARLY it was a popular song. Unless you just don't like it personally which is fine, to each his/her own.

Allen wasn't talking about pay for radio availability, but regular terrestrial radio here. Which is the point. I only know of maybe one that plays some, but not all of these and that's 90.1/90.5 WZRU. Other than that not a single station in Eastern North Carolina plays them. I know of no standards radio staion in this area unless someone would be willing (and I can't believe I'm asking this again) to provide call sign, frequency and city of license of said station that has this format.

If it was profitable though, do you not think stations would be jumping all over it? Consider that the one station you site in the area who does run this format is a nonprofit who doesn't rely on mainstream advertising.

Well it's a start. I appaud them (and I eve listen to them as well on occasion) and if more so called "mainstream" PDs start opening up their palylists and playing some of these songs they would make more money and a difference. It's like anything else there has to be a grass roots effort by someone who has enough clout to start the ball rolling. Some "brilliant" (actually stupid music consultant) person said long ago that the very tight playlists we have now was "the wave of the future" and some idiot bought into the BS and then the next and the next and so on until we have the mess we have today.

"Angel of the Morning" Not the POS version Juice Newton did, but the original by Merilee Rush!

I think you are speaking of "Lovelite" by O'Bryan. He has music out there and also appears on "Old School" compilation discs from the mid to late 90's. Good luck!

And I think you are right - Thank you VERY MUCH. Up here in Canuckistan, we get exposed to so much from both sides of the border, that it's overwhelming to sift through it all.

I'm liking everyone mentioning all of these forgotten songs. This was a great thread and I'm glad I've found it.

I don't see why we can't include the 60s. There were some good songs in there too I'm sure. Since Allen started the thread he would be the ultimate one to decide.

An American Dream is already been mentioned I know I posted it, but so have many others. Duplicates are welcome. If you're mind is like mine you forget really quick which is why I made the database of what everyone posted. Which I need to update again soon...

;D That's what I say..Can of worms? I ain't got nothing else to do... However this goes back to the 50's I've been holding this 'un back, but I want in in..
