Here's a database update. There have been at least 775 songs posted this does not include the ones "all of a sertain artists' Top 40 songs". If those are included then the list will probably be in the 850-900 range if not more. Add all the "safe" songs (200) and you've got over 1000. Now that would be a KILLER station! ;D

;D I....Don't know John..Some of these are getting pretty lame.. I personally would love to run the station that did this, but I sorta go along with whoever said that us old guys remember all these..but the average Joe Blow wouldn't and if he did..Once wouyld be enough: I;E Tiptoe thru the Tulips..Yummy Yummy Yummy..Etc..APE!

Lame ??? To me Lame is hearing the same old thing over and over and not being willing to walk to the beat of a different drummer.I don't love all these tunes either but somebody bought them.Just my opinion.....

Allen

John (Double J)

Do you have a way of sending me a copy of your database? I'd love to match it against my station's
music library..because I'm going to play a lot of these..

If my finances improve, maybe I'll consider streaming it later on.

Here's my station's page:

http://www.musicbox1610.com

It's only Part 15..

This thread has really made me feel nostalgic..I was just starting out in radio in 1979 and played many of these!

I would have to agree with Allen's commnt here. And Tip Toe and Yummy were also good songs. Tip Toe went to #17 on the Top 40 charts and Yummy went all the way to #4 so there's your proof that someone HAD to like them both.

That's the whole point of the thread these songs AREN'T played on the radio anymore and should be. Somebody liked them enough to BUY them and liked them enough to place them on the charts whether it was on AC or Top 40. I didn't say that the "safe" songs that gets played over and over an.. well you get the picture, would not be played, they too would be played it would truly be "the VARIETY" station.

Yes, check your PM and email.

I'd have listed Yummy Yummy Yummy a long way back, as I love it, but I know it's love/hate song.

There were three versions by the Ohio Express. A lame, staid album cut, which had no life at all.
Someone must have suggested cutting a single with a new take. This became the hit on the radio.
At the time, "all" the big rock stations ran heavy reverb, which helped a lot.
Shortly thereafter the buddah releases of the 45 had reverb equal to what people had heard on the radio.

There is some measure of perfection in this song as a radio music unit. It has a phat orange-ness
and a simple chord progression that can be heard well in a big-block engined convertible with the top down at 80 mph.
Like the Ramones, these guys could make a song that was fun and rocked.

I don't recognize many of the songs listed, but I kinda left mainstream pop somewhere in the 70's.
Since then, it's all been "difficult listening".

Uhhh...I didn't see anyone post Tiny Tim or the 1910 Fruitgum Company on here...I disagree-I believe SOME of these would be a breath of fresh air to the average listener who is numb to radio because of MAINSTREAM REDUNDANCY day in & out.Plus it would make money because it's different yet familiar to adults. Of course some wouldn't be played...others may not even be available on digital 'til someone transfers them from vinyl. VH1 Classic's doing well, isn't it? This would be the radio version only WAY better...especially if it were syndicated from my house. Did anybody put this one yet?
Piano in the Dark-Brenda Russel :)
