Greatest top of the hour ID's in radio history

WDAF, Kansas City, throughout most of their 61 Country Days. They used "61 Country" exclusively, never the calls, except during newscasts, when they were exclusively WDAF and never 61 Country.

They even got Paul Harvey to record one of those....very cool indeed.

Storz actually had this to an art form. WTIX with the Chime after the ID, KXOK with a custom Pams jingle "The Gateway to the Best in Music" (to the tune of "Meet Me in St. Louis" and KOMA with the "Oklahoma City" borrowing from the musical "Oklahoma". KORL in Honolulu also had a good one...."For Hawaii and the Pacific...Number One". (Ron Jacobs, Tom Rounds and the other Poi boys at K-POI might have had a legitimate argument with the second part of that one!)

The booming voice of Gary Gears: "W-L-S, Chicago" and also the stagers he did for WXLW, Indianapolis: "W-X-L-W, Indianoplis, The Mid-America Music Machine!" (followed by a telephone ringing and a sexy female answering saying "The Time At The Tone...4 o'clock at Super XL")

>>Who was the guy with the deep voice who did those IDs for X-ROCK?

Was that George "Super Cooper" then at WOAI, San Antonio and later at KONO?

Oh, yeah, he did a great stager at WOAI in the late 60s early 70s when they were high-energy AC:

"W-O-A-I, San Antonio (boom) 50,000 watts that sound like a million!"

OK..one more from ten or so years ago for then 107.5 The Buzz...hmmm, was it for AM/FM or Clear Channel?

KTBZ, Houston, 107.5 The Buzz...The Station We Didn't Tell The Stockholders About...the red-headed stepchild of Clear Channel Communications!

"You have reached the top of the hour at the top of the dial, this is Eagle 106, WEGX, Philadelphia, a Mallrite station"

"Howard Stern all morning, great rock and roll all day, 94.1 WYSP, Philadelphia"

"You are listening to the station of the stars, 850 WPEN, Philadelphia"

"America's Station, 700 WLW, Cincinnati"

"610 W-I-P, Metro-Media Radio in Philadelphia"

"Your Official At Work Station, thousands and thousands of stations!!"

Another good one that came to mind after my last post three years ago...

KIOA in Des Moines. Acapella PAMS jingle "K-I-O-A....Des Moines". The "A" sang as a long note...."Moines" as an even longer one. Similar in effect to what was being used at KOMA (also from PAMS...but a bit different). The KIOA version was in use more often than not from the late '60s through early '90s.

Sorry I'm late to this topic... My favorites are (1967-68)

"AND THE HITS, JUST KEEP ON COMING... K-C-B-Q, SAN DIEGO"

Another sung one is, Eleven-Seven, K-C-B-Q, San Diego

"Listen We Think We Have Found You" WKRQ Cincinnati 1973 from a Moody Blues tune called Dawning Is the Day

Do you guys know where I can find some of the old ID's? I love station ID's, but unfortunately I was born about 50 years too late, so I didn't get to hear them when they originally aired.

I'm sure there'll be better suggestions than mine, but you could start by doing call letter searches on Google and You Tube and see what sort of audio clips come up. There's also a PAMS jingles site that contains numerous examples of their excellent work. There are also aircheck archive sites that you can check out, such as Reel Radio." Also check out Rich Bro radio on the internet. Robin plays a vintage TOH legal ID each hour, on the hour. Frequently it'll be a Bill Drake "and the hits just keep on comin'..." You'll also hear a number of classic jingles.

I have a couple dozen vintage jingles and IDs that rotate in my computer and iPod playlists. Makes for a great effect.

Good Luck!

I do the same thing Cyberdad. In fact on my ipod I have several airchecks from many of the great Top 40 stations of the 60s. A great time machine whenever you want it.
