Greatest top of the hour ID's in radio history

"Thank you for helping us do the chores this morning on the Little Red Barn program...Now, for my sidekick Bob Sievers, this is me, Jay Gould, wishing you bushels of luck for today...Acres of health from the good soil up, and a world of understanding, over the 50,000 watt voice of the big business of farming, Westinghouse WOWO in Fort Wayne, Indiana...Then that Group W Newsboom!
I have re-created the Group W "Newsboom" in stereo. The best news sounder ever!

My personal favorite: (music: bap-a-bap, bap bap, bah, baaaaaaaa...fades to drum roll) as Charlie Tuna's deep voice intones: "From the entertainment capital of the WORLD, you're listening to the greatest music... on EARTH! K-Earth 101." Then immediately the Johnny Mann choir sings the legal I.D.: "K-R-T-H, Los Angeles."

From the Top of the Empire State Building WHTZ-FM Newark-New York City, the World Famous Z100 New York.

I don't know if they're still doing this, but WDJO in Cincinnati was playing homage to long-gone businesses that were still remembered, such as "From the King Kwik studios" or Broadcasting from the Cincinnatian, Cinncinnati's Motor Hotel, this is Cincinnati's Oldies Network". I'd program oldies in Knoxville "From the Cas Walker Markets Studios".

I also loved WSPK FM "Serving New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and an itty bitty piece of Vermont this is WSPK Poughkeepsie's K104!"

That was a great ID. It was Charlie Van Dyke, though.

WEZV used to do this but not sure they still are, and WERT was doing it last week, but they named their studios after a local business for the top of the hour ID.

A lot of stations and networks have studio sponsorships. I was referring to WDJO spoofing the concept by using long-ago, no longer operating businesses that long time residents would know.

One of the best I've heard recently is KCBS-AM/KFRC-FM, San Francisco. Consists of a music bed for anchors to tease the stories for the next hour, the legal ID by a V/O artist and it then hits the top of the hour CBS chime and news intro:

It also has what I think is the best positioner possible for a news station: "What's happening and why."

The voice guy is the late Nick Michaels. Shortly after his death, they replaced him with a female V/O artist and changed the positioner to "When you need to know." Music bed is the same, though.

Also really strong---KFI, Los Angeles, about 25 years ago. Music bed for the ID that becomes the news theme. The late Mark Denis had several different pre-recorded liners in rotation, so each hour would sound different.

Other liners:

"How do you spell Schlesinger? KFI, Los Angeles. More stimulating talk radio." (they carried Dr. Laura at the time)

And, during the O.J. trial:

"Guilty. Guilty. Guilty. KFI, Los Angeles. More stimulating talk radio."

And one more. While KFRC-FM is now a simulcast of KCBS-AM, the the FM's HD2 channel is a jockless Classic Hits jukebox with 70s-era KFRC jingles, including the station ID:

It's been running like this for 13 years unchanged, even though KFRC.com no longer exists as a feed and redirects to the Audacy main website.
