Greensboro/Winston Salem - The Latest Market With Two CHRs

Looks like Clear Channel flipped a Greensboro station to CHR/Pop yesterday. Urban AC 105.7 Kiss FM is now known as 105.7 Hit Music Now (similar in name to Dial Global's Hits Now). The new CHR is skewing Rhythmic, and some of its liners seem to be knocking KZL's longstanding music policy of leaning Adult. Check out both CHRs

WKZL is a great station with alot of community involvement, it will be tough to knock them down!

The logos also look very similar to these eyes. Both have big "107" or "105" with the smaller fourth number in the frequency.

I don't get this. Whoever makes the articles on the front page of this site is wrong. You can't just classify a station as just CHR. It's either mainstream or rhythmic. They should just say rhythmic CHR! The two are very different from each other. You won't hear artists like the Fray or All American Rejects on these rhythmic CHRs that seem to be popping up lately. One song that these stations play a lot is "Closer" by Nelly. I just cannot stand that song and turn it off every time I hear it!

Actually, you will hear All American Rejects on many of the new CHRs poppping up. The new station in Greensboro is definitely a CHR/Pop station. albeit with a Rhythmic lean. Several years back CC owned a Rhythmic in Greensboro that was known as 94.5 The Beat, and there's also heritage Rhythmic outlet 102 Jams in Greensboro. Those two stations sound radically different from this new station on 105.7.

The new 105.7 Hit Music Now will play Pop/Rock records, even by The Fray, in the daytime but will likely focus predominantly on Rhythmic/Pop in the evenings. Why? In part to combat 107.5 KZL (which itself leans younger at night), and b/c Clear Channel stations are very good at targetting 12-24 with this style of music in the evenings.

Dayparting isn't going to change the listening habits in the Triad, though CHRles; you know that. KZL and 102 both have very large, very loyal listener bases, and there aren't many listeners who fall somewhere between the two formats. The few who do tune to one of the two existing stations already; they're not going to pay attention to a third station that plays it all depending on what time of day it is. On top of that, the fact that it's on a station that was reduced in coverage area a few years back doesn't bode well. You'd think they would have learned their lesson, but like many other victims of abuse, Clear Channel Greensboro just keeps coming back for more.
