Greenville AM/FM ownership stake for sale on eBay

Go to eBay and it's listed under item #5670799593

The ad says that you can own an 18% stake in a 100,000-Watt FM / 5000-Watt AM station combo in Greenville. Which stations are these?

The bidding was only $25k

WDMS 100.7 is the only 100,000 watt station in Greenville and I believe WGVM-1260 is still a sister to DMS, so that's my guess. Did the bid close already?<P ID="signature">______________

That would be Bob Ghetti's interest (the former GM). But since a minority owner has no power whatsoever, it's probably not worth 50-cents. Come to think of it, the entire trash heap isn't worth more than that.

In fact, it could even be worth less than that.

While I don't know how the stations(s) are set up from a business organization standpoint (e.g., Corporation, LLC, or the like), in some cases, the owner may find himself being forced into a Capital Call. Other unpleasantness could also result.

If you're interested, better do your homework...

I'd trust Larry.
And, whoever is offering this, they haven't looked at their license lately. FCC thinks WGVM is 2400 watts, not 5k. Not sure when they made the change, but for now, it's a 2400 daytimer. 50 cents? I'd give 'em a dollar two ninety eight.

I applied for a part time job there when I graduated from Indianola Academy in 1970. I was looking for something to do over the summer. Can't think of the PD who interviewed me, but he told me I would never make it in the business. Fine. Went home, 2 days later the phone rang and I got 6 weeks of vacation relief at WHBQ that summer. Ya never know....

Partnerships are hard enough between people who know each other very well. Imagine going into business with total strangers through acquiring the ownership stake on eBay. And, imagine how the owners of the other 82% feel about this guy selling his share on the internet to total strangers.

While some folks might think it would be nice to own 18% of a couple of stations, one should keep in mind that owning said 18% would obligate the owner to 18% of the liabilities. If these stations are bleeding by the gallon, the new owner of this ownership stake might find himself in real trouble.

It's operates on a 5/8 wave tower making it more than equivalent to 5000 watts of a typical AM station.
