Gregory Jacobs (1964-2021), aka “Shock G/Humpty Hump” and co-founder of Digital Underground

I finally read more about him and he was much more than a rapper. It's pretty amazing all the work he did on his biggest hit and other songs. I also copied some of his lyrics to do a sort of tribute to him on another site, and it was only than that I found out how truly raunchy "The Humpty Dance" was. I had only heard the funny lyrics and it was one of my favorite rap songs, but I hadn't heard how it really was. Maybe some of those words didn't make it to radio.

If you saw the video, the censors had fingerprints all over the lyrics due to concerns that MTV or BET, let alone Muchmusic, wouldn’t air it. Even some stations went as far as avoiding the song during the countdown shows, like KLUC Las Vegas when it had American Top 40 at the time.

I never saw the video.

One more thing this man did was to discover 2Pac, and while I wasn't a fan (I did like his acting in the two movies of his I saw), that is an important achievement.

I have finally gotten around to watching episodes of "Call Your Mother". Jean's best friend had "Humpty Dance" as her ringtone. I have never enjoyed listening to a rap song that annoyed people more than I did last night. They were at a spa together, and the phone rang twice in rooms that were supposed to be quiet. Even worse (for them), the phone was hard to find inside a giant purse.
