Guess the rumors were true about the Sportsfan 990

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the problem that the job wasn't for LOWER pay, it was for NO pay. The operative part of that sentence is 'to work for Tom Bailey'.

I'm all for people following their dreams, going for an opportunity that presents itself. I just know from expereince that anything involving Tom Bailey isn't a dream, it's a nightmare.

That proves my point! Did Letterman know who TB was, when he took the job? I know I sure as heck had never heard of him. I knew 990 had these types of problems under a previous GM, but IIRC his name was not Tom. That being the case, how would I have known about Tom's reputation?

In the buisness world it's called due diligence.

You call around, you ask questions...If you read the article, and his posts, Letterman admits that he made a mistake, and didn't ask questions, he just jumped at the chance to move back to a favorite town and get on the radio...

Maybe you've got a different perspective Robert, because you're not having to deal with the realitys of corporate radio on a day-in day-out basis, but I would think for most of us it would be standard operating procedure for any of us considering a job change to check out the situation. Is it a good company, are they solid, will the checks clear, etc...And what's my potential new boss like? Is he a hothead, a screamer, a thrower? DO I know anybody who has either worked for him or at least worked with him at past stations? They're offering me a better daypart or a better position, how much turnover has there already been at the spot, are they always looking for the next big thing...etc etc etc...

You ever wonder how out of all these boards, Big Brother knows precisely when to pull the plug and yank a conversation to the nether regions? Boys, me thinks we have a snitch among us. Of the games around be mindful you should. May the force be with you.

Actually, in my opinion, they waited a bit too long to take that action.

But oh well

:)

Cheers!

Hey, Robert
Since you use your name, I was wondering if you could fill me in on your radio back ground.
I know about KEOM, but where else have you worked?

Not counting the Photography Lab Assistant job at Eastfield College in the early 90's... ummmm... nowhere. ;D

I was a student DJ at KEOM from 1986 to 1989, and was hired there in 1990.

Sweet. Good on ya'. Might explain your propensity to "really enjoy" the 70s. I hear dark rooms where used for more than "photo development". But I, uh, read a lot of books. ;D

VDV...

IT'S TRUE!!!! Everything you've heard about other uses for dark rooms! ;)

It also helps when the lab coordinator is a cute chick ;D

Robert! I once heard that photographers do it better in the dark! AND Old photographers NEVER die-- their "F" STOPS!

Just a MERE thought!

Yes, eventually their F Stops, but usually that's the last fill flash.

Usually a set of symptoms developes beforehand.

Their ISO usually reduces

Their auto focus goes negative

They suffer from single lens reflex overexposure
