Halloween treats, tricks, and batteries dying...10/31/18

A mix of everything! First, starting with the one new log:

670 - KLTT CO, Commerce City; heard under KBOI at 0630 PT with what sounded like a news update, followed by ID '670 K-Light' (KLTT), into commercial for law office. NEW #772, 50KW at 916 miles. To think I had never heard this until now, and it's 50,000 watts! That's what happens when KBOI is S9+30 I guess.
Also heard 620 KJOL Grand Junction (790 miles) with Christian music at S9 levels, and an unID 990 with commercial for book 'uncovering the secrets of the Obama's' followed by SRN news. Possibly KRKS Denver, which is needed. I already have the 94.7 from an Es opening years ago.

Then went out for the TP session. The usual NHK's were doing well. 585 JOPG Kushiro (10KW) was in around 1407z with male in Japanese, music sounder and other stuff // 594-JOAK, NHK-1 network. Korean pop at 1412z on 603 likely HLSA but no ID. 'Happy FM'
640 Morning Edition at 1420z and no ID, probably KYUK. Still a tentative! Keeps getting away from me.
846 (!) audio rose out of the mess around 1420z as well, male in what sounded like Korean. There's a 10KW HLAU in Ulsan City that airs MBC programming (commercial network). I recorded a 30-second sample in the slop and will be posting it soon.

THEN MY BATTERIES DIED! Ugh! At 1430z that was it, and I didn't bring extras. So my session ended early...
Also note, domestic signals were still strong at 7-7:30am PT. KOA and KDSP were both S9+ throughout the whole session which is unusual. In Denver it should be full daylight by 8:30 MT. 810 KBHB was right under KGO with livestock reports, but I think their sunrise is late.
Oh well, a new log makes my day. Happy Halloween everyone!

DX TIP! Logged just now...

1300 - KOLY SD, Mobridge; 'Something' Beatles // playlist and 'KOLY' calls mixed with KLER at 2108 PT Halloween. NEW #773, 5KW (cheating on day power) at 969 miles. Need SD? Go get 'em!

I have been able to get a partial null on local WLS AM 890 in recent days but until yesterday the only station I could hear was a Spanish speaking one, which I assume was Cuba. Yesterday around 6:30 pm local time I a had a station playing country music. Did not hear an ID, but matched it to the web stream of KQLX (Lisbon, ND), which is a new one in my log book.

Could we have a permanent thread where we could post our recent DX catches?

I personally like the idea, but I've already "defaulted" into posting the AM Frequency of the Week series. I also think most of us have been posting our new catches in individual threads. BUT, it would probably be nice to have a "sticky" to post their new catches in a convenient single place that could be easily reference. Question for Frank: Does this board have the capability to offer that?

As for KQLX, congratulations on the catch. Especially since WLS is stronger at your location than where I am in Crystal Lake. I'm guessing you either had them either right before signoff, or that they "forgot" to sign off that evening. For years, I had a major customer in northwest Minnesota, and I was amazed at how well KQLX gets out with just 1800 watts. I've never heard them here at my QTH, but the Spanish language station on 890 is a fairly easy catch for me with WLS nulled. I'm also pretty sure it's Cuba, but haven't IDed it.

cyberdad that's what I had in mind. Single thread where we could post new catches in one convenient place instead of opening new ones for each new DX catch. Perhaps we could have one for AM, one for FM and perhaps one for shortwave or even long wave.

The AM Frequency of the Week is a great feature, which I personally like very much. I enjoy especially for the retro stories. Keep up the good work.

@CADXER, Thanks for the kind words.

@Frank....Do we have the capability of launching a "sticky" dedicated to new catches? Or should we just launch a thread and just keep it going. Similar to the long-running "lamptimer" thread.
