I'd accept an argument that WABB/WABD is a heritage FM since the Dittman/Cumulus/EMF fiasco didn't last too long.
I wonder about WNCV, Coast, in FWB. I don't know much about Coast 100.3 back when they only broadcast with 1000 watts or so.
Pretty much all of the FM non-coms would fit the (my) definition.

It seems that urban and country stations are the most likely to be considered heritage. Besides TK101 I can't think of a single rocker within 250 miles that's been around 30+ years.
 
Well, obviously the true heritage station is indeed WPFM. In fact, it has NEVER been anything but some form of rock format (AOR, new rock, new wave, Top 40, CHR, AC) since a few years after signing on back about, uh 50 years ago....hard to imagine. I thunk it qualifies for probably one of a few dozen stations to never have flipped to a completely different format like Talk, Country, Jazz, etc.)

Sunny would probably qualify for the heritage status as being AC since the Woodfins owned it. Like most FMs stations, they were variety or classical formats in the beginning when AM ruled. Sunny was EZ listening for many years. PAP of course for country.

Cause I can't scroll down on this on my iPad - and I am editing - WNCV didn't sign on until I think around the early 90's. It was like 3kw and crowded out, but was lite AC. Wave has always been pretty much some form of rock, even back with the true owner of it, the Carters, had it. Can't recall it ever being another format like country, etc.

80s additions: Island 106 has been WILN for many years. I guess, 97.7 would qualify as being mostly a rock station since the mid-80s. Then you would probably have to throw WRBA into the mix. It was AC for a while before going Classic Rock. All this subject to memory failure.

Despite the reduction in power, is PFM still serving their area clear? I know height does a lot, but so does power

Rob - what they did was just move the tower site. I can't specifically say for sure, but I THINK they moved to a tower a bit closer to Panama City and a bit to the west, so the coverage should be a bit better toward Navarre and a bit less toward Tally. Might be wrong. It's kinda like a math formula, btw, move up in tower height, lower down the power = still equals about a 100,000 wattey thingys. In this particular case, moving closer to PCB is a helpful thing because the previous tower was quite a distance from the population centers. Basically, if you threw a small signal right in the middle of the population base, you're better off than a huge signal 30-40 miles away, because the customer/buying base needs a penetrating signal to pick it up in businesses, offices and homes. Now, IIRC, which I never do - seems like a little engineering birdie told me it was CRUCIAL that the proper equipment be properly mounted on the new tower to avoid nulls and lapses in the signal, which would affect things, if done improperly. Having a ton of bays (like 12 or something) would be a nightmare or using too much aluminum foil. Can you get 107.9 down your way? It would have been tough before, but now is it any better?
 
It's been a tad stronger, if they were more west, I could hear them better, I can't afford a tower with a yagi on top, (would love to have about 10 in my yard..) I'm stuck with my car, my two portable SW radios, and my CC Radio 2.

BTW, Not related but, I did hear what sounds like Mexico still coming in on AM 1200, very strong, and the sun was out in full bloom. Any Spanish musical stations in the area?

During the day? I love how we get the leftovers of Ft Myers/Tampa etc up here. (kinda sad) I don't think it's Mexico, are any stations in the area on 1200 Spanish?

50kw AM with a 100% salt water path will travel far. Tampa and New Orleans are the most common but Ft. Myers isn't too many air/sea miles further than Tampa Bay.
 
Come on, y'all. Just go to radio-locator.com and check out 1200/WJUA in Fort Myers. "Juan 1200"--Hispanic format. See how the daytime 50,000-watt signal from Cape Coral just goes out into the Gulf? And the secondary (0.5 mVm) contour shoots out to the northwest? And the "fringe" contour shoots NNW? Directly toward Rob? Nothing but water between their sticks and Rob's radio?

And, no, Fort Myers isn't a foreign country. Just seems like it, sometimes...
 
Yeah, but it's gotta reduce its power at night to 1,000 watts. And there's no web page, so I can't listen to it online. Unless, of course, I go to Tune In's web site.
 
I did that and knew it had to be US based, I think we are too far away for picking up ground wave signals from Mexico

On the Florida side of the Gulf, 1200/WJUA, Pine Island Center (Fort Myers) is a mere 387.4 miles straight across the salt flats from Rob's trusty transistor radio. Nearest Mexican signal appears to be 580/XEYI, Cancun--a paltry 637.8 miles from lovely Navarre (637.7 from Navarre Beach). Rumor has it that WJUA broadcasts in Spanish, and XEYI broadcasts in English--a good way to tell the two apart!
 
Now that November has hit, I'm going to guess that 98.5 will be the first to flip this year. I know the two Deliaha affiliates wait till after Thanksgiving. Coast 93.3 will hopefully wait till December. But, I doubt it. Enjoy the Awesome 80s weekend while you still can! This or the next might be the last ones of the year.

Both 99.9 in Mobile and 98.5 in PC went '"All-Christmas". I am a bit surprised that 99.9 went this early.
 
If History repeats itself, 99.9 will flip @ Thanksgiving at noon. They always do a charity drive for 24 hours.

^Were you referring to WMXC-FM (also known as Lite Mix 99.9) in Mobile? If so, you must have missed the previous message about the station switching to Christmas music (you may learn more about the switch in this linked article)
 
Yea, they do an event for charity I knew that. I have no idea what the calls were, but, they put out one hell of a signal almost to the Outlet mall in Destin till it craps out.

and wow, that is just... early!
