Harry Shearer claims "Le Show" cancelled by WPR due to "political content"

Harry Shearer claims "Le Show" cancelled by WPR due to "political content"

...Harry made the claim at the opening of today's show, as aired by KCRW Santa Monica...interesting, considering at the same time WPR picked up "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me," hardly a bastion of conservatism, and plugged that show into a Saturday midday slot...curiously, that means "Wait, Wait" is now heard twice a weekend in the La Crosse and Duluth-Superior areas, with the second run on Sundays at 2:00 on Minnesota Public Radio's KXLC and WSCN...

Re: Harry Shearer claims "Le Show" cancelled by WPR due to "political content"

Dave Berkman's Media Show on Friday afternoon was cancelled for the same reason at the end of June (because his biases were too evident - for the management, the listenership, or both) - but WPR promises to bring him back as a "guest" on shows having to do with the media (i.e. WPR guests are allowed to have biases, but not the WPR hosts).

Comedian falls from state public radio

... On this weekend's installment, Shearer opened by addressing his disappearance from the Wisconsin Public Radio lineup, including Milwaukee's WHAD-FM (90.7). The last episode aired on July 2 in the 11 p.m. Sunday hour.

"I'm going to say goodbye at the outset to our good friends at Wisconsin Public Radio who jumped off the network to replace this broadcast with another hour of the BBC," Shearer said in a broadcast from England. "It's ironic, we're in London."

Offering his version of the cancellation, Shearer said, "But they were displeased with the political content of the broadcast, don't you know."

Corriveau's explanation is very different, saying that a WPR panel studying its programming had determined that Shearer's show wasn't consistently entertaining.

"I'm a great fan of Harry Shearer," says Corriveau. "I think he's brilliant. But I think if you listen to the show, they can be brilliant, or they can really ramble on." ...

That would be my assessment of "Le Show". It can be hilarious and informative, then very tedious.
