Has America's Best Music Eliminated All Adult Standards?

Someone suggested WEBR Buffalo.

Fewer standards and less AC than WERT, more standards and less AC than WPTX,
Actually, the AC tunes that WEBR plays are worse. Seriously? "Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash? No one is using logic here. They think just because they play some standards that anything goes.

WERT did play "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears but off-the-wall stuff like that is rare. Songs like that seem all too common on WEBR. I've given up.

On the other hand, WEBR actually played Walter Wanderley's "Summer Samba", while right now a very different version (which it says on the web site is being played by "Walter Wonderly") is playing on WERT, which I have never heard playing the "right" version.

Speaking of 1690 WPTX, I used to get a very strong nighttime signal from them here in NJ, but now within the past month or two I hardly hear them at all anymore, above the Greek language station from Toronto. Maybe they were "accidentally" using their full 10 kW daytime power at night, and now are back down to 1 kW like they should be.

I was thinking someone might like to see a list of songs played on WERT, which seems to be the best broadcast station that is streaming based on familiar songs. WLML has more standards, for example, but not familiar ones or familiar versions. They do say what is playing now, but once the song has finished, they don't list what was already played.

Francis Lai "A Man and a Woman"
Bobby Vinton "There! I've Said it Again"
Perez Prado "Cherry Pink"
Fifth Dimension "Wedding Bell Blues"
Beatles "Act Naturally"
George Benson "Turn Your Love Around"
Gale Garnett "We'll Sing in the Sunshine"
Jimmy Jones "Handy Man"
Elvis Presley "Good Luck Charm"
Bing Crosby "Swinging on a Star"
Eddy Arnold "Make the World Go Away"
John Paul Young "Love Is in the Air"
Michael Feinstein "I Can't Give You Anything But Love"
Barbra Streisand "People"
Bobby Vee "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes"
Buddy Holly "Maybe Baby"
Jimmie Rodgers "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine"
Frank Sinatra "Cycles"

Who is advertising? During this hour, podiatrist, pizza delivery, bank car dealer, agricultural services.

There were three newscasts. One was a brief Fox News report, then there was Ohio News Network, and 30 minutes later farm news, delivered by a man who sounded like a farmer.

That was probably whatever the Agri Broadcasting Network morphed into.

This year as I returned home from the Myrtle Beach, where there is nothing like this (WEZV sort of resembled it back in 2016), there was no Rush Limbaugh to listen to. WFRK had a host I never heard of. So I just turned to WIOZ as soon as I could. The first song of the Noon hour: "I Left My Heart in San Francisco". The last song before the 1:00 News: "I Can't Stop Loving You" by Ray Charles. Everything else was AC or oldies.

WIOZ listeners are unfortunate in that all commercial breaks have commercials, or something resembling a commercial. Some of the best standards are played during those times. On the way to the beach, there was a lot of detail about a plumber. For example, he was asked if we have an emergency would he come at 2 in the morning? Yes, someone was always there. At another time, the "commercial" ended with the host thanking the person and the person thanking the host for having him on.

WIOZ does not seem to stream.

how do you expect a radio station to pay the bill;s if they dont run commercials?

This is a community station which apparently does some kind of long from commercial that takes up most of the break.

I didn't say there was anything wrong. It's an interesting way to do it. However, when America's Best Music is playing a good song there, it's kind of a shame.
Those are optional breaks in a satellite format, the network fills with a timed song.

Okay, WERT is the best station I've found so far. KABL has a lot of unfamiliar music even if it is nearly all standards. The versions of songs aren't always the most familiar ones but I'm hearing standards I haven't heard anywhere else.

WERT is the pride and joy of Chris Roberts (longtime WOWO air personality) and took the music in-house after Citadel/ABC’s ā€œTimelessā€ folded, but kept the jingles.

Since this is a thread about America's Best Music... have they changed their presentation much since they let the announcers go ~5 years ago?
I know they had a female voiceover who had a big presence on the network.

I had not listened to the format for nearly a year before I listened to WIOZ on the way to and on the way home from the beach, but the female voice is still there.

Well, why not sample it for yourself: Westwood One (formerly Unistar) "America's Best Music" long-play airchecks via WNAM 1280 kHz Appleton, WI 2020 June 16, 17 and 2020 July 22 UNSCOPED - "AM Only" as heard at the end of the 2010s : Cumulus Media/Westwood One : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

The stream is on http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/m3u/WNAMAMAAC.m3u. Be aware, earlier this year they started putting a stupid pre-roll commercial on that can sometimes mean leaving your player's mute engaged for up to a minute and a half before the actual simulcast joins. This seems to happen whether you're playing it directly in VLC or downloading with WGET and chase-playing. Stupid. Stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid.
