Has anybody used Music of your Life lately?

Has anybody used the Music of your Life format lately? Do you remember if it was ever in the top five in any market other than Cleveland? I heard it for the first time in a while today and it seemed abit disjointed to me with a lot of not so popular oldies. What say you?

The problem is that the original Al Hamm format was based on music that would only, today, be relevant to people in their 80's and beyond. Even in unrated markets or smaller stations, that is going to be a tough sale to both listeners and advertisers.

I remember listening to a "Music of your Life" station on AM radio back in the early to mid 1980s while working alongside my grandfather in his shop. That generation is either gone now, or have 1 foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel as they say...Certainly not in a demographic that's going to bring big ratings or attract lots of advertisers.

The feed I heard this morning was very updated maybe 60's stuff but they threw in semi popular songs way too often. Obviously, they were trying to bring some refreshing sound to an oldies format. Also, no break for station identifiers for 15 minutes just seqs seems like a poor idea. There were no places for the affiliates to break away even for 5 seconds.

WIOI AM/FM Portsmouth, OH has been an MOYL affiliate for 21 years now. I stream them on the Simple Radio app as the new website hasn't added a listen live feature yet. This not the MOYL of the Al Hamm days Under Marc Angell they have updated the music away from great American songbook to a wide variety of 60's 70's oldies, rock, crossover country, jazz, and yes, a few standards. I've noticed the music styles will change depending on what time of day or night you are listening.

If they did, they would be responsible for paying all the music royalties. I doubt they want that expense.

But yes, Marc Angell owns the trademark and he's looking for ways to monetize it.

This is interesting. Since 2012 Multicultural Broadcasting has been using MOYL for overnights on their stations in the top 20 markets. They have a contract in place.

When I last checked, about a year ago, KCJK 105.1FM, in Garden City, MO\Kansas City, MO, was carrying MOYL on their HD2 subchannel.

Haven't heard it in a month or so, but I believe Peter Marshall (former big band singer/game show host) who is in his 90's still hosts a daily 2 hour show of standards and big band. Have also heard 2 hour shows with Marc Angell and Lori Haffer (daughter of Al Hamm). That's something I really like about them, they're not just a music jukebox with no personality. Right now they seemed to have jumped on the Xmas music bandwagon.
