Has anyone heard of KFWR 95.9 The Ranch buying 92.1 KTFW?

It would appear to be the other way around .I Doubt if Gary Moss would sell to the Ranch folks. Perhaps Mike Barr could enlighter us on this. He is the morning host and GM of KTFW.

Well I hate to tell you this but the rumor is true. LKCM Radio Group did buy 92.1 KTFW just the FM not the AM. And the GMS name isn't Mike Barr it is Mike Crow. Anyhow the rumors have been confirmed.

When did this take place?
By the way, Mike Crow isn't the GM anymore, but is still the PD.

Could this entire thread be any more confusing? :)

OOPs you are right it is Mike Crow.I was used to his other air name.If LKCM did indeed buy them, then Nadine must be polshing up her resume' some more. It's intersting considering they just moved into their new studios off of Sun Valley and 820.So if the sale goes through will they relocate to Sundance Square or vice versa? It does bear watching. I wonder what Gary is going to do.

Gosh, not that long ago, I was reading that LKCM was looking to get OUT of the radio biz. One of the 20-somethings on the board of directors had been letting his girlfriend make all the programming decisions (like not playing female artists because she didn't like them), and since LKCM is really an "investment company" with a portfolio that has nothing whatsoever to do with radio, it seemed like a logical choice to sell off such a bad investment and go on to the next thing. Maybe they still have pipe dreams of one day actually showing up in the Arbitrons, then the for sale signs can go up. Surely they're scrutinizing what station broker First Broadcasting is doing and trying to do the same. I can't think of any other reason that they'd program their little Kerens and Campbell stations separately from each other and from Ranch.

Gary has his fishing charter business to keep him busy.

KFWR 95.9 + 92.1 KTFW + ??? = deal?

Confirmed by a source outside of this fine board? I'd love a link.

I'm still trying to figure out why KFWR would want to buy KTFW. KFWR 95.9 already reaches out to Mineral Wells, doesn't it? I haven't reviewed the stations' coverage areas, but I thought KTFW 92.1's footprint was pretty much contained within KFWR's. The issue of new studios (not to mention Nadine) makes a rumored purchase seem even more baffling.

The only reason I can think of would be if KTFW is working on a behind-the-scenes megaswap, like happened a few years back. I don't recall the details, but at the end of it all, Dallas' KHYI had a new transmitter location and a stronger signal, and a bunch of other stations (Hispanic stations, I think) got the coverage they'd been wanting.

Could such a deal be in the works now? KFWR 95.9 has the west, south, and east covered. But their big hole is in the booming Collin/Denton area -- and I suspect they'd love to take on alt.country rival KHYI. Is there anyone with a tower on the north side of Dallas that would want to trade it for a tower on the west side of Fort Worth? A religious or ethnic station, perhaps?

But it's all speculation at this point... I won't believe it until I see the deal reported someplace *other* than here at Rumor Central. :)<P ID="signature">______________

I have to agree with you. The folks I know at KTFW are laughing and denying it.

Call and ask ... ask and answered ... ask and you will receive -- and all that ...

Geez, I thought your name was edwardrmurrow.

Instead it is ... little ed.

Not much of a journalist.

Pick up the phone and call them.

David Eduardo was right. You sure don't let the facts interfere with your opinions at all.

SO Mike Crow (Barr) is the PD-- wow and I remember when he was just doing traffic reports for Shadow about 8 years ago-- gee how time flies when you are having soooo much fun! Good to see his name again-- hope he is doing well!

Just a thought!
