Just wanted to know has a mudslide ever knocked the LA radio and tv off the air? I could not remember that ever happening but it could have and I just don't remember.

The stations are at the top of a peak. There is nothing above them to slide down. And, while there is some topsoil up there, it is not deep and below it is solid rock.

The danger up there is fire.

Isn’t there a small observatory up there just south of the transmitters on that summit? I remember a snack bar too and a great view above the smog looking west. I haven’t been up there since the early 90s I believe. That’s a really beautiful area especially driving further east on Hwy 2 towards Wrightwood.

Not small. One of America's most important land based observatories.

I never saw the snack bar, but was not there for entertainment. I have a good deal of respect for mountains, even small ones like Wilson.

I think I read somewhere there used to be a post office up there too. I think it has been closed for some time though.

I finally made it up to Wilson a few years ago after wanting to see it for myself for a long time and it was NOT a let down!

Mt Wilson is a very nice site and there’s an observatory next to the towers. Go up there, enjoy the view, and visit the observatory

About 10 years ago a rock slide blocked the access to Mt. Harvard, just southeast of Mt. Wilson. There's a big building with KUSC, a couple of other FMs and lots of two way stuff there. You got to Mt Harvard by driving to Mt Wilson and then heading out from the Observatory parking lot about a half mile along the old Mt Wilson Toll Rd. I also remember the main road to Mt Wilson being closed at one point by a slide and for several weeks the only way to get to the transmitters was either by helicopter or driving up from Pasadena on the Old Toll Road, which is a hiking trail. KCRW didn't have any facilities up there so I'm a little hazy on the details.
