The stations are at the top of a peak. There is nothing above them to slide down. And, while there is some topsoil up there, it is not deep and below it is solid rock.Just wanted to know has a mudslide ever knocked the LA radio and tv off the air? I could not remember that ever happening but it could have and I just don't remember.
Isn’t there a small observatory up there just south of the transmitters on that summit? I remember a snack bar too and a great view above the smog looking west. I haven’t been up there since the early 90s I believe. That’s a really beautiful area especially driving further east on Hwy 2 towards Wrightwood. The stations are at the top of a peak. The danger up there is fire.
Not small. One of America's most important land based observatories.Isn’t there a small observatory up there just south of the transmitters on that summit?
I never saw the snack bar, but was not there for entertainment. I have a good deal of respect for mountains, even small ones like Wilson.I remember a snack bar too and a great view above the smog looking west. Mt Wilson is a very nice site and there’s an observatory next to the towers. Go up there, enjoy the view, and visit the observatoryI think I read somewhere there used to be a post office up there too. I think it has been closed for some time though.
I finally made it up to Wilson a few years ago after wanting to see it for myself for a long time and it was NOT a let down!
